F-X1 or F-2B?
« on: December 17, 2007, 01:57:58 PM »
Probably a really basic question... but I just bought an SF-2 which I use with an Ashdown MK500 head and am delighted with it. I'm wondering whether to get a tube pre-amp one-day. What are the prros & cons of the mono-vs-stereo Alembic preamps???  Any thoughts anyone?  Thanks, Mark England. Happy Christmas y'all!

- They sound different.  The F-1X has a single tube state; the F-2B has two tube stages.  F-1X sounds cleaner; the F-2B sound tubier.

- The F-1X has an effects send and return.

- The F-1X has an active crossover.

- The F-1X has a direct out.

- The F-1X has a deep switch.

- The F-2B has two channels.

Those are the differences I can think of at the moment.

Why choose? Get 'em both! A bunch of club members have done just that. Add your SF-2 for even more knob-twiddling fun!

Cheers,
