Mark King using a STUNNING series 1 live
« on: January 12, 2008, 03:55:54 PM »

To be with you again Live in 1991

This version also shows off King's ability to play fingerstyle while singing.

Yup that guy who me and my classmates used to describe as That tiny man playing a bass bigger than he himself is back in sixth grade is one hell of a musician.

Really nice, stunning Alembic! MK certainly has a lot going for him. Shows just how versatile he can be, singing and playing like that is an art form!

Good tune as well! Was Allan holdsworth not playing with L42 around this time? (I know that he definitely ISNT in this clip!)

Superb links Pierre, so very interesting!

Thankyou. I had no idea MK had used Fenders, Pangborns, a Musicman and even a Zon! I think most people always think MK = Jaydee & Alembic.

John; as far as I can tell, Holdsworth was on one album, Guaranteed, for which he played on 5 of the 16 tracks, and one tour, 1990-91.  By the summer of 1991, which I believe is the tour this video is from, Holdsworth had left.

Thanks Dave,

I quite like L42, but found the concept of AH (my all time fave guitarist ) playing with them a bit of a wierd concept at the time! Guaranteed was a nice LP to be fair though!

I guess being a relatively unheard of musical genius doesnt always pay the bills. L42 was probably a nice earner for Allan

thanks, Pierre-Yves, for the cool links... especially the bassography got me hooked. I knew about the Alembics, of course :-), Jaydees, Pangborns (first and only time I've heard of Ashley Pangborn), but MM, Zon and F****r aren't brands that I connected with MK yet...

thanks again, very educational...

Just to add my bit.......

I have a Fender 'Mark King' Jazz Deluxe - number 22 of 42 made.

Just got rid of the Status Kingbass. Nice but not the best.

Also have a cherry JD which is great.

The bass on the vid is a Series II tho.
