Back in 1995, just after Jerry Garcia died, the Dave Matthews Band played the Greek Theater at U.C. Berkeley. A client got me backstage where I met the band. I wound up hanging out with LeRoi and Boyd (the fiddle player) for quite a while after the show. I remember LeRoi pulling out a bottle on the bus and giving me my first taste of real moonshine! I came away with a strong impression of LeRoi as a very special, warm, and joyous guy. Someone that instantly made those around him feel comfortable and happy. And the guy could really play. (That night the band played Eyes of the World as a tribute to Jerry - LeRoi told me only a couple of guys in the band had ever heard it before - yet the band did a credible job on one of the Dead's more difficult songs). Forty-six is WAY too young. Thanks, LeRoi, for a cherished memory and RIP.
