Am I getting too old??

Well, It's about 4 in the morning, and I can't sleep.
So-What do I do------I go into the living room where my 4 bases are and pick up one.
Is it the Curbows-----nope!! Is it my 76 Series1--nope!!!
It's my 75 Precision bass!!!!
Why should I favour this bass to my others??
Is it that lovely woody bark that only comes with an old P bass??
I don't know-it just sounds the bass for me-plug in and play, and get a wonderful sound-even with passive electronics!
All psychological help will be appreciated here.

Don't over analyze. Consider this. Compared to all the potential activities you could pursue, you choose a bass guitar. Does it really  matter which one?

James-I just can't put my finger on it. The sound, the look, the feel. If I had to go and do some gig or recording session, I think I would take the P Bass!! I'm playing locally on the 20th of this month, and it's as sure as hell, that the P will be the bass of choice for the gig.
I know that I could take the Series 1 with me, as the venue is not a rough neck dive----but!!??
Danno-loved the Freud lines!! Made me laugh so much. I have the complete works in my library!!
 
To all of you---I'm a qualified Psychologist and can't figure it out myself.
Should I just stick with the P bass and sell the Series??
I know a couple of guys here in Scotland that would love to get their hands on her.
I just seem so confused as to my loyalties at the moment after buying this thing

The pendulum swings- as surely as it swings, it will swing back.... and then back the other way again.
 
Don't sell the Series.  You'll always miss that sound if you do sell it.

Hi Toby,
I suppose you're right. The Series is spectacular in everything she does---but there again, so is the P bass!!
I have a small grounding problem with her at the moment, but nothing that a soldering iron or ?30 can't fix.
I just think that I love this bass as much as my Series, hence the reason I'm looking for psychiatric help.
I'm just confused as to why something so simple, can equal something so complicated, and let's be honest, the Series is complicated-try getting the same sound twice from it if you forget the Q settings. No such story with the P bass!
It also makes me wonder about the neck through/bolt on argument. I've got a maple neck on this one, and there are absolutely NO dead spots on her at all, which is nigh on unheard of with maple necks
I think I'll take a couple of tablets now and go and rest--but thanks for your advice. I'll keep the Series as well-Sorry Graeme and Mike.
This may be the reason that Rami has about 8000 basses. It's a mood thing

George - put it down to new love...emotions are powerful things as you will surely know!
 
There is something definitive about good vintage fender basses - its like you say, just plug them in and that sound and feel is instantly there!!
 
Once you grow to know her every aspect you will become entirely familiar with her and the new love will slowly reside to out and out appreciation and admiration...at this point you will remember old loves and be glad of their faithful companionship and familiarity also!
 
Oh, and make that three Scottish members out here in the wilderness who would love to get their hands on your series!

The Navigator cable is about to be fixed!!
You know, I've been a little stupid and somewhat brash in my assumptions about these 2 basses.
Through the Nvigator, I'd set the P bass up so that it sang like a bird!
Then, I plugged the Series in and set the EQ to a more Alembic sound
Result
Straight away, I got the sound of Stanley on the Journey to Love album.
The sound, clarity etc was stunning!! and I mean   STUNNING!!
This was just on the front pup, as the jack socket only does this when used monorally
So        there is NO WAY the Series is for sale!!-I just needed a decent preamp to shape the sound!!
Surely the Navigator has to be the best (or one of the best) preamps on the market!!!
I'm back to thinking ALEMBIC!   Although, with the EQ set up properly, the P bass is a killer!!

She is my latest purchase, and we all like to play with our new toys!
It's just (I think) that I love the Series sound AND  I love the sound of the older P bass.

George, I have had a couple of really nice vintage Jazz basses - one of which was very special! I traded it with the bass player in the band Hue and cry for one of his Vigier Passions. Needless to say the Vigier is long gone (a shame) and the jazz is being loved by some lucky person out there!

I'll be keeping the Series. There is no doubt about that, and like yours, is a 1976 model.
I've got band practice next week, so I'm taking the P bass to hear her in that sort of situation.
I'll post the results the following day.
