I never thought that the audio content of these shows ever stood out from the crowd on their own..... I guess you had to have been there.

I always thought the same, but a few weeks back I heard some of these shows in the Sirius GD channel, and it actually sounded pretty good....

Got my copy in the mail yesterday! Cool packaging, so far I've only listened to the bonus disk which has some great stuff. Oh, watched bits of the DVD too.

Did you ask for express shipping?

Phil and Bobby are going to be at the Best Buy in Manhattan signing these on 10/14.

i just heard Bobby apparently broke his ribs on the tour bus. Seems he's okay, but I'm wondering if the thing in NYC is still happening.

Thanks for reviving this thread.  I'd forgotten all about the Egypt shows being released.  Went to the site and ordered the special package that includes the Egypt set, the Winterland shows following the Egypt tour (GREAT shows - I was there), and a T-shirt.

They're not the best at what they do, they're the only ones that do what they do

I'm still waiting for my copy. Apparently it was shipped on the 25th. Hopefully they didn't really use a ship ;-)

If I'm not mistaken, a few of the tracks - Ollin Arageed, Minglewood Blues, Fire on the Mountain and Stagger Lee - from Egypt are included as bonus material on Shakedown Street.  I have to say I thought those versions were rather languid...not a lot of energy.  Of course, this was near the end of Keith & Donna's run with the Dead.

Has anyone downloaded the 2 Philly shows from November '79?  The set lists looked great to me & this was Brent's first year in the band...a very positive thing from my perspective.  However I've heard that there were some pitch issues with the download.  Any info would be much appreciated.

The Egypt '78 stuff, as well as the Warfield Road Trips from one month later, is decent.

The T-shirt (which I also bought) is misspelled. I work with people fluent in Arabic, and the word for crew is misspelled into a nonsense word with no meaning. Not a big deal, unless you have Arabic-speaking people reading it and looking at you like you're an illiterate moron, LOL'

FWIW, my first Dead show was on that '79 tour when Brent was new (Nassau Colisseum, Nov. 2). I had friends at the two Nov 5/6 Philly shows from the Road Trips Fall '79/Nov. 5/6 Downloads who bragged about them. It was a decent tour, especially if you're a Brent fan.
