Moving from bass to guitar
« on: October 21, 2010, 11:12:08 AM »
I have been playing as much guitar as bass lately, and I am thinking of moving my F1-X to a guitar rig with a Crown D-60 power amp. Any suggestions or comments on suitability or adjustments/settings? Thanks.

The D-60 will be nice and clean. you can bi amp or play full range.
Here is the manual. Be sure to read the section regarding mono application. Special configuration is required.

Thanks, Sonicus.
It's good to know how to bridge the amp channels. But I use it with 2 speakers anyway, so that may not be necessary. Plus, the manual says it wants to see 16-ohms when bridged, and neither of my speakers are 16. I did make a special speaker cable to wire them in series, to make a single 16-ohm circuit, but I doubt there's a benefit to wiring it that way when I could just use both channels, one for each speaker.
But now that you mention it, bi-amping sounds interesting. Does anybody do that for guitar? What would be the benefits?

Some of the Polytone guitar amps use Biamp technology ( George  Benson  liked it I believe) . I think the Versatone used it as well.. Advantages in your situation would be  an infinite ability to change your signal process patch's. You could process the highs with out effecting the lows .  The same benefits as in any biamp set up . Cleaner highs clear well defined low end. etc ...   I like the idea of having that kind of control over the signal path.

Nice guitar! Is that a MKIV? I put 6V6's into my MKIV and it sounds really cool!

Well, in a complete reversal of intentions, I decided to us the F1-X with the Crown D-60 in a small bass rig, using an SWR Bass Monitor 12 for the cab... So trying it with guitar will have to wait for the next gear re-arrangement. But I did follow the instructions for the D-60 as far as bridging the channels... and it works just fine.
