How's the weather?
« on: February 02, 2011, 04:57:03 AM »
I'm looking out the window here in mid-Missouri to see that snow has drifted over the hood of my car.  Kind of makes me wish I was in Santa Rosa.  How's everyone else faring?

Nice and sunny here in Seattle, but it won't last.

Wanted to give a shout out to Columbia Mo. I love that place. I learned to play the blues while there in the 80?s. I cut my teeth playing at the Blue Note, Park Place, and Lee?s Lounge.

Enjoy the cold now. The heat and ticks are just around the corner.

I have friends & family in Glasgow, Missouri  . I think it's time to call and say hi. They had an awful experience a few years back when a
Twister rolled through and took the nearly 200 year old family farm house.   The weather on the Central California Coast is quite spring like  at this time.

Hit minus 19 degrees in Conifer Colorado yesterday. My Diesel gelled up in the tank and my truck died. Whoopie!!! Were having fun here now. Was worried my garden might freeze too and it's inside. Might get above zero today here. I don't know how they do this all winter in Canada. Kinda wished we would get some snow though cause the foothills and Denver are way behind in moisture this year.

Unreal - all the streets by me (suburb of NYC) are basically OK, except for the hill that I grew up on, where my mother still lives.  Since school was cancelled, I dropped my 5 year old daughter off at her house for the day before heading into NYC for work...

...Parked at the top of the hill, got out, and quickly realized that walking was not an option.  So, my daughter and I sat down on our butts and slid all the way down to my mother's house!  Fun, but we were completely soaked!

Walked in, threw our clothes in the dryer... I had a cup of coffee, hung out for a while in some old clothes, changed, and climbed back up the ice-enshrined street to my car, and drove in.  I was only an hour late, but what an experience.  Now my back hurts a little...

I've pretty much had it with this insane winter at this point.

As soon as I'm done reading the board, I'm out to clear the central IL snow; some places the ground's bare, some places there are drifts 4'-5' high.  It should take a little longer than usual today.  I've about decided I need to live somewhere without winter or summer; just spring-fall-spring-fall.  But this isn't bad, really - now when I was boy we had snow......

We're the only house around with electricity.  Ironically, we're also the only one with a functioning wood stove and the wood to run it.  Trees have been shedding branches like crazy, but so far nothing too bad.  I think I can still get to the road (we live in the woods), but haven't checked today.  It's gonna be a real mess when this all melts.

Stay warm and safe, my friends!

I've got snow drifts halfway up my living room window, and no need to go out. Did my shopping yesterday, so hot chocolate and chicken noodle soup for me today!

Yesterday the temp in Denver topped out at -2 degrees F... Today is a heat wave: up in the single digits ABOVE zero! My windshield washer anti-freeze froze...

Hey Gary,

I work for MU, and am familiar with the places you've named.  Columbia's a great little town.  The university has been closed since yesterday, something unheard of in previous years.  I've managed to dig myself and my elderly neighbor out, so clear sailing from here on.

The middle of Massachusetts really sucks, though I'm sure there are people worse off. We've had a storm dropping enough snow to generate cancellations the past three consecutive Tuesdays with a little more on the side here and there. Yesterday and today the back-to-back storms caused cancellations, and though it seems quiet now, the forecasts say it isn't over.

I think we had one day in the mid 30s this past month, but not enough to melt anything significant. Untouched areas of snow are in the vicinity of 3' while the sides of most streets are over your head. We've seen a couple accidents already where driveways and side streets have been rendered blind and the streets are narrowing.

Can't wait for this winter to end, but there's so much water on the ground, I know there are going to be all sorts of flooding issues in the future. On top of that, golf courses and other turf-related spring activities will be delayed until the ground can absorb all that water and firm back up.

Anyone else envy people that live in condos of late?

Milwaukee actually is 'shut-down' because of a snow emergency. Not as bad as some others have gotten it this year. This is Wisconsin - Snow Happens. Let the dogs out this morning for potty time, had to push real hard to open the back door - snow drifts were taller than the dogs.

I have over 10 of ground clearance on my 93 YJ jeep  - but I am heeding the medias advice and staying home.

My back is sore - wish I had a snowblower . . .

Oh - and I forgot to add that I have a Calton case being shipped from Canada to Alembic, and it's currently stuck somewhere between OH and IN, due to adverse weather conditions.
