Saw the two bass giants last night.
Like Edwin mentioned, Victor's band was more polished, he had his big brother Reggie on guitar and Joe on keys, drummer was Watson/ Watkins? Super talented bunch - Reggie was F U N K Y with his whacka whacka and raking techniques in full effect.
At the Milwaukee show Stan had the same basses as Edwin mentioned - did NOT have Vic join him on stage when he closed with School Days :-( however he went toe to toe exchanging licks with all of his band members Charlie (the guitarist) was smoking on School Days, amazingly one of the keyboardists (Davey) really killed it - holding down the 'rythmn' bass part and exchanging licks with Stan at the same time, very impressive.
Ronald Bruner Jr. (Stan's drummer) was off the hook all night long - he completely shattered his snare drum head by the second song! He is a power drummer for sure - smacks that snare like Gerry Brown - it was alot of fun watching him play. Stan's upright work was VERY inspiring.
Brought my back plate in and got it autographed (saw a guy that brought a bass and they turned him away at the entrance).
Great night - great show.
