Got this month's VINTAGE GUITAR in the mail yesterday, with a sub-headline procaliming 'The 25 Most Valuable Basses' on the cover.
Of course, it includes most of the usual suspects (60's Fenders, Firebird and EB-series Gibsons, etc). However . . . .
Out of these 25, four were Alembics: The mind-bending John Judge doubleneck, the S1, the S2, and the Brown Basses were all in the list. And at prices we actually see them changing hands for in the used market around here.
The short tag for the S2 entry noted that Alembic 'reinvented the electric bass, using low-impedance pickups, multi-laminate construction, onboard preamps, they were like nothing before'.
Of course, everything else listed WAS what came before, what with Jazzes and Rics (the 4005, the ONLY vintage bass I'd like to have one day), Paul's Hofner, and Gibson basses . . . surely my favorite oxymron in the English language . . .
Anyway, it's out to subscribers now, and should be in the racks PDQ. Also a short piece with Anthony Jackson with his stunning 36/no knobs Fodera AJ Signature. And also to my great relief, after a one-month sabbatical, the terrifically zany ad-guitar descriptions are BACK at the Willie's American Guitar full page ad. YYYAAAAYYYYYYYY ! ! !
