I just checked out that excellent clip of Jessica.I got to thinking about that moment when all other bass lines and tone would be compared to that one song. For me it was Emminance Front w/the mighty Ox.I'd had never even heard of Alembic back then and was playing a Matao, and a Univox beatle bass. The year was 1982.The next song was actually an album, Paul Simons Graceland.I had hear Jaco by then ,and Mark Egan,as well as Michael Manring(who continues to bewilder me),but something about all those fretless tracks really stuck with me. Its funny how things like that stick with you, because even when I've tried to move away from those sounds/tones,they always sneak back over time.
