Hey guys
I just bought Rory's (rklisme) Series I (should be here tomorrow). Is the 1/4 jack stereo or mono? What recommendations do you have for running the bass? Do most of you just run mono out of the DS-5 or is worth it (in terms of energy and money)to run 2 rigs? If you were going to set-up 2 rigs, any recommendations on the configuration (1x15 for the neck and 2x10 for the bridge maybe)? Any advice would be appreciated.

The only way of knowing if the jack is stereo or mono is to plug in your cord and see if both pickups work. If they do it's mono and if one works it' stereo. Some series basses were wired either way. Use the DS-5 as it will save loads of money for batteries. They don't last but maybe 8-10 hours and when they die you will think you've blown every speaker in your rig! The bass will still sound amazing run in mono, but if you've got the time and the rig to do so, running in stereo would be supreme!
BTW if you want to sell your DS-5 and get a rack mounted version I'm looking to buy one.

When I will have a series I, bridge pickup into one F1-X, neck pickup to another, both full outside on a power amp with the same louspeakers ... I actually use SWR goliath senior 6X10 and a SWR triad.

Rory was originally selling 2 SI basses: 1 w/a DS-5 and 1 w/a DS-5R. I THINK I got the DS-5R. We will find out tomorrow. Let me know next time you're back in Knoxville and we'll do lunch.

If you run a stereo rig you will need 2 crossovers (1 for each channel) if you are running bi-amped in to both 10's and 15's.

The reason for this is that both pickups are putting out a full spectrum signal; albeit with different EQ curves.

If you are running a stereo rig which is not bi-amped you will still probably want both channels to have a full spectrum of drivers.

If you have something like the F-2B, you can run each pickup separately into the two channels, EQ them the way you want, and then use the summed output. Which is basically mono, but with a little more control.

And there's nothing wrong with just going mono - you still have a powerful set of possibilities!

Europa 5 string w/ Series I Electronics

Neck Pickup -> F1-X -> Stewart World 1.2 -> Eden D210XLT
Bridge Pickup -> Chorus Pedal -> Fender Princeton Recording Amp
SF-2 A Channel runs through F1-X Effects Loop
SF-2 B Channel runs through Princeton Effects Loop

The bass actually got here today!!! Rory had it refinished and re-fretted a couple of years ago, so it looks brand new (it's a '77). I plugged in and only the neck PUP works, therefore, the 1/4 jack is obviously wired up stereo. In the event I needed to use it w/out the DS-5, I really would rather have the 1/4 jack mono. Can I just move a wire over at the jack or is it more complicated than that?

Mike,

Congrats! One of the cool things about having the jack wired stereo is you can plug a set of stereo headphones DIRECTLY into the 1/4 jack and get full sound of both pickups. Try it!

I have run a similar set up to what you describe. I have 2 F-1X preamps and I have 2 SWR Triads. I have on ocassion run each pickup into its own F-1X then run that through each side of a Crown power amp and out to separate Triads. Provides TONS of tone options.
