Mainly aimed at anyone on the club that has 'befriended' me.
My account 'graeme jackson' has been hacked in such a way that I'm unable to receive the password reset emails. Facebook is particularly unhelpful in these instances. Just wanted to warn anyone who knows me on there to ignore any messages from that account. I'll be setting up a new profile at the weekend so some of you may be receiving friend requests from someone you think you're already friends with.

I work in IT at a university, therefore I get to see this sort of thing happen far too often.  My suggestion is to use a pass-phrase instead of just a single string of characters.  It's much harder to break.

A friend of mine discovered a near-duplicate account of his own, complete with his pics, that he did not create.  Facebook has been zero help getting it shut down, even though the person posting from it is clearly misrepresenting who he is.

Some days I'm ready to go back to scraping on cave walls and trading rocks instead of relying on this computer stuff..  ;)

Sorry to hear that Graeme.

John; it would take a pretty big cave to fit all of your road trip photo diaries.

I don't know my Facebook password.  Why, you ask?

Because I use LastPass.  It keeps track of all my passwords, and generates strong passwords for me.

I keep separate passwords for all the sites I use, which is much more secure.

I recommend it.

Well I got this sorted but it demonstrtates just how insecure facebook is. after I locked the account I faffed around with password resets until the system gave up and asked if I wanted to associate a new email account with my facebook id. (after the lloyds takeover of HBOS i got a new lloyds email account so was able to use this). facebook then sent a password unlock code to the new email address which I've used to sort my account. I guess anyone could have done the same and taken over my facebook account! Much stronger pasword now in place.
