It's good to know that you can get a good overdriven sound from an alembic guitar. I've not managed to get one I'm completely happy with yet through a food pedal although I get a useable one from my fender twin.

jazzyvee, I understand your vibes on Alebmic guitars. They just don't look like a typical rock guitar you run power cords, and flurries on.

Rock guitars has a image of physical abuse and are very Keith Richards like...

It just looks strange to see an Alembic lead guitar turned into an angrily, over-driven; over the edge; pro non anti-depressant; finger slashing, bending heavy metal monster. Damn, it got bite, and I love it!

I'm guessing a good (tube)compressor that doesn't mask the attack too much and keeps the level around that of a passive system set of pickups in the front of a signal chain might help to adapt the alembic system to typical effects chain so one could switch from an alembic to a les paul without changing too many settings while getting pleasing results on both.

I can run my bass or even vocals thru my guitar rack if I use the HHB Fatman at the front.It's been years since I've owned a functioning Alembic series instrument so this is all just pontification...when I find my next alembic guitar I'll probably drop the trimpots down way low to match some passive pickups.

I'll know more about 'nu sound...' once I receive the 45.I could hear them online but I want to experience them first with vinyl and ampex tube amps...so I'll let ya know in a week or so.

My Godin Artisan strat uses Seymore Duncan with 3 interesting single-coil-sized humbuckers. I can't say I ever played a better or more clean over-driven reverb-on board guitar. Its also the best blues guitar, I ever played in years. Turn it on, and its quiet with no noise or feedback sounds without your commands.

A choice between my Godin and a Alembic Series 1 lead, the Godin wins hands down. I would even choose my Godin over a early model 1960's Fender Strat classic.

However, keeping this string in context of Michael Hampton's usage of Series 1 lead guitars in the video, is very rare, but very important to document.

Who needs huge humbuckers on a strat body when you can stay trim...

The Seymore Duncan company, created a line of noise cancelling humbuckers double coiled pickups, in the size of traditional single coil pickup configurations.

Jazzyvee; food pedals are probably most effective when trying to get mustard and ketchup on lots of sandwiches in a short period of time. But yes, I can see why you wouldn't be completely happy running an Alembic through one.

Fantastic! Not only does this completely rock, but I can really begin to appreciate the complexity of the tone through my headphone rig, even though it's YouTube ....

I'm bookmarking these 2 clips -- who says active electronics can't make the sound of a wailing banshee?!

Also, FWIW -- the Fender Hot Noiseless Pickups (Jeff Beck signature) are also stacked humbuckers in a single-coil configuration ... They've really reduced the noise on my hot-modded MIM Strat.

Michael Hampton, plays Maggot Brain A 70's classic.

It is amazing to such a prolific era for music from where we are now. Its sad, but for over 40 years, I had never focused my attention on Alembic Lead guitars as being a force to acknowledge from this perspective. I just did think people bought them for this sound. However, maybe I am right, and perhaps this is why Parliament / Funk-A-Delics challenges and confronts this idea head on.

Michael surly was taming his Alembic beast into cosmic funk submission, to earn and gain citizenship for the conditions of free egos for the sake of the groove and it was refreshing!

FWIW, That Alembic tone is as close to Ty Tabor's (King's X) as I've heard. I'm wondering what his gear set-up is (was)? Tabor used to get his (closely guarded) tone from a Strat Elite thru a (Gibson) Lab Series pre-amp. Maybe it's just in the fingers...Tabor still has his sound even though he plays a signature Yamaha (with either humbuckers or single coils) thru Mesa Boogie stuff.
