Alembic lead guitars screems!!!!!
« on: April 04, 2008, 09:53:57 PM »
What a treat to see and listen to George Clinton's Funk-a-delics jammin hard with Alembic basses and Alembic lead guitars on the cosmic-slop jam.

Lead Guitarist, Michael Hampton kills with one of the best electric lead solos P-Funk ever did (next to knee-deep of course) 1970's video.

One other thing, about the importants of this old video... toward the end of the jam, the Gerry Shider (playing the strat) jumps in out of nowhere, and starts a solo with his strat; then all of a sudden, Michael Hampton re-enters with his Alembic lead guitar, and they duel it out (Alembic vs Strat) style.

Soon Boogie Mosson (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame'er) joins in and double teams against Gary. Thus Two Alembics, against one strat.  That was a trip!

I never seen anything like this, where you get to hear and see, both bass and guitars pumping the funk in a threesome. That was wild, only George Clinton could pull off something so great

Cool video.  Watching it made me realize that there is one area in which a Strat beats an Alembic - it's easier to tell which pickup a Strat player is using, but that's about it.  By the way, that's no ordinary Strat the guy's playing.  It appears to have humbuckers in the bridge and middle positions.  And you'll never play a Strat right until you do it wearing wings and a diaper!  (I hope he got paid well!)  lol

Clinton's bands were the coolest in concert.  I saw them about a dozen years ago in a small venue.  There were about 15 people onstage.  Diaper dude started out with a black leather jacket which he chucked after a few songs.  One guy was wearing a white wedding dress.  Clinton wore a robe made out of a bedsheet with the genie from Aladdin on it.
Visually it was a great show.  The sound was really disappointing, though.  The mids were largely missing.  You could see people playing all these parts that you couldn't hear at all.
I would love to see them again sometime.

What's really cool about The Funk-A-Delics, is they had a rock edge mixed with soul; and Alembics were at the very heart of their music and apart of the legacy of Funk.

Looking back, George Clinton's Parlament/Funk-A-Delics was widely considered the The King of Funk and I agree this t be true today. Clearly, without my awareness back then, Alembics were on the correct side of history. Which means Clinton and company were using the very best products for the groove!

I daresay that that group would be great no matter what instruments they played. ;-)

It is interesting to hear an Alembic guitar, for sure-I'd never had a chance to hear one that clearly before now.

I agree, and of course, The Funk-A-Delics didn't need Alembics.

The ideas of freedom of choice, and self expressions in music is what a true art form was all about. Again, it was a personal discovery for myself, and with much support of personal choices and choosing the Alembic, as the tool of choice, is even more fulfilling as a supporter of Alemebics.

A no endorsement Alembic policy, means, you can look back, and see others using their own judgements for the benefits of the music they are trying to manufacture, and nothing else.

The purposes of this video, was a personal eye opener, to heard a screeming Alembic Rolls Royce in the hands of the most preeminent Funk groups in the world.

On the video, the Strat was fighting in the ring like a Pit Bull terrier. It took two Alembics to take him on.
