After much reflection I have decided to close Bass People and Green Square Music.

The reasons are a combination of personal and financial.

From a financial perspective, we have seen sales declining steadily over the past two years to the point where the business is no longer covering its overheads.

From a personal perspective, I want to reclaim the headspace presently devoted to the music business and get involved in some new projects - including actually playing the the bass more.

Establishing Bass People was a dream come true for me. My goal was simply to create the shop that I would like to shop at. In doing so we succeeded in creating a bass shop which many international visitors said was one of the best in the world.

Our mission was to be the aspirational shop for customers, staff and suppliers - and I think we succeeded on all counts.

To our wonderful customers, I say thank you! Without you we couldn't have made it this far.

To our fantastic staff - Joel, Matt, Adrian, Evan, Pete, Glenn - a super big thank you. I am disappointed that for your sake we couldn't grow the business and provide ongoing and challenging careers.

To our suppliers - we have appreciated your support and confidence.

And also a special word of thanks to the many high profile bass players that have given generously of their time and knowledge - Craig Calhoun, Mark Costa, Leon Gaer, Steve Hunter, Dauno Martinez and many more.

So stand by for the mother of all bass sales! If you have had your eye on something, call the store now for a great deal - before we start advertising. Because when its gone, its gone.

On a practical note - it will take us a few months to wind things up. All lay bys are safe and secure and can be collected any time. The Workshop is still going strong and we hope Matt will continue to do repairs even when Bass People is not around. All supplier accounts will be settled in full.

David

I few important points to add:

1. The doors are definitely still open. For some months it will be just like business as usual - but cheaper!

2. We have some great Alembics in stock including a Jason Newsted and a Stanley Clarke.

3. Alembic was a big part of my inspiration for starting the business in the first place - the passion and commitment to quality and not pandering to the lowest common denominator.

David - sounds like you did really good, some people never pursue their dreams. You are a fortunate man!

So does this mean you might get the podcast up and running again? It was fun!
