Demo track - it is a variation of an old solo piece I wrote. First time recording a solo track through a Zoom H4 into Cubase - added a little Roomworks reverb to 1984 Distillate (bridge PU), no over dubs.

Paul, you're gonna have to learn me on Cubase, now that I've gone and snagged an H4n and can't seem to figure Cubase out at all. My laptop will come to the Chicago gathering and you can tell me a) I'm old, and b) I'm an idiot and what I want to do is right there in front of my face. I'll listen to the clip as soon as I can get the 14 year old to relinquish some audible spectrum in this shaking house..

How did you setup your Zoom? In the past I've just used the built in mics, but next I want to run from my direct outs into the mic inputs on the Zoom. But what I'm thinking about is hooking the Zoom up to the computer and using the Zoom simply as an interface, letting software on the computer do the recording. What I don't know yet is whether I have to adjust the input level on the Zoom. I guess I just need to sit down and work with it for a while.

dave..I use the Zoom B2.1u which has a USB connection and it comes with Cubase LE software.
Plug it into the PC, install the program and follow the instructions in the manual.
You adjust the recording level with Cubase not with the Zoom unit. Now I have got the hang of it all I am thinking of recording some more tunes as I also have a Yamaha Portable grand keyboard and a Strat, I may get a programable drum machine(which I have never done) from e bay or anywhere really - open to suggestions for ease of programming and quality guys, otherwise I will try and use the Yamaha or the Zoom drum patterns

That's exactly what I did. Used it as an interface - it was a trial. I adjusted the input level the same as when you record to the Zoom as a stand alone (make sure I wasn't peaking)and then as Terry said, I also adjust levels in Cubase. I plan on trying the Direct outputs to the Mic inputs as you suggested. Thinking of doing a comparison of the Carvin MB15 and the GK800RB to hear the sonic differences.

Another thing I would like to play with (need to take a bunch of sick days) is to use the effects while recording. Knowing full well that playing 'live' with an effect(s) would certainly influence my playing. The posted track, Late Winter Zebras was recorded 'dry' with an effect added a bit later (trying to emulate the feel that you and HB3 have) :-D
