Six string bass body width?

Hi all,
I am thinking about building a bass six, but I don't know how wide to make the body. I was going to make an Excel-esque body shape, mabey 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 thick, with very light strings and a narrow spacing.  
 
Any thoughts?
