Before I continue avidly pursuing a Long Scale Series I, might someone give me an overall length?

As I see it, a regular case is the only option over a gig bag, due to the extented tip on the body).

Or is there someone who has gig bag experience with a Series I........?

My trunk is only so large. : ))

I've seen too many sad horror stories when people mistakenly believed a gig bag would protect their Alembic. A hard case may be inconvenient, but it's surely more convenient than a case of expensive regret. If a gig bag is accidently droped...it happens...the results are not usually pretty.

Kinda what I figured. Which takes me back to wondering overall length of a Long Scale in regard to it fitting my trunk.....?

In my opinion the trunk of a car is not a good environment for your Alembic in a gig bag or even a case . I would not do it to my Alembics personally . Is your trunk completely temperature controlled ? Just thinking ! LOL __

Well, I can't see my trunk as being a problem, as the time she will be there will be a maximum of 30~60 minutes. My lesser qualitied basses have survived. : ))

Better there (trunk), than visually exposed in the back seat. I've been ripped off before. No fun replacing stuff, and picking pieces of pulverized safety glass out of the seats/floor/dash/etc.

I would never leave any equipment in a car unattended in the street, much less visually exposed ! I would think that would be considered common sense 101 ! I am extremely careful with such matters .

Sorry. Back in '93 I flunked Common Sense 101. I'm glad you are extremely careful with such matters. Since that time, I also have been very astute in regard to security.

Not all of us have been forever vigilent in the Caution Department. Btw, it was an attache case left in my car during a gig, not an instrument.

We do live and learn, do we not?

Still, I'm trying to get an overall length of a 34 Series I.

Tell you what, let's put this to rest. I'll contact Mica.

I get 50 3/16th length out of case and 52 1/16th in hard shell case
That would be a Standard Point Long scale . There might be variations perhaps from bass to bass year to year .

As far as learning from our mistakes , Yes , quite certainly . That is why I am so careful now. About 2 years ago my wife had her leather jacket and her purse stolen from her trunk! this was in a paid parking lot with an attendant on duty in the building in down town San Francisco . In these difficult economic times we all can't be careful enough. NO offense was intended to you !

My Spoiler is a Series Omega shape in long-scale.

The case is quite large, relatively speaking. The ONLY car I have experience with is my wife's Buick LeSabre, which has a trunk large enough for disposal duties for certain, un-named Italian organizations . . . . It also just fits laying on the back seat with both doors closed.

So, you're gonna need a Suburban/Tahoe, or a large, tradtional American car, or at least a minivan or sport-ute. Forget Accords, Mazda 6's, BMW's. See Wolf's measurements above.

While I wouldn't leave it in the trunk, I certainly carry mine back there. I've had basses/cases I carried standing up, leaned back in the front passenger seat. Can't do that with the Series unless, again, it's a good-sized vehicle.

It's worth the trouble, but not compatible with a Miata !

Nissan Almera..rear seats folded down(without lifting seat pan)takes the following
Ashdown EVO 300 combo
Ashdown 15 extension cab
Alembic MK bass in hard case upright on long edge(the hinges)
Gig bags x2
2 x mic stands
When I get home from gig the Alembic comes out back into the house, I ain't precious about amps etc.
Avoid gig bags, our instruments cost a lot, a worth a lot and will give us and our offspring many years of service.
Would you chance your instrument in a essentially a rucksack for guitars..No brainer!!

I've concluded that a 34 Series I ain't gonna work.

To buy a car to accomodate an Alembic.......

While it probably wouldn't be a first, I just can't go there. Yet.

My Series long scale point fits in the trunk of my wife's Camry easily in the huge case it shipped in.

terryc.....nice! You covered a lot of ground. Thanks for posting!

Btw, your Nissan sounds like my old Stanza I virtually wore out....I could sit mic stands up on their base with that thing, and it could hold TONS of gear with the rear seats down.

Bottom line is this: when I find the right Alembic, I'll buy it! Forget the car...I'll HAVE the bass! Let the drummer pick me up. : ))
