Author Topic: Gig Bag for Series 2? (Read 541 times)

I'm trying to find a gig bag for a Series 2, one thats big enough for the body size-- as well as the point at the bottom of the instrument. I'm assuming that whatever gig bag I find I will have to pad the bottom of it in order to not crack the Point when the bag is placed on the ground. Does anyone know a brand that might work for this size and requirement? I don't need anything luxurious or super high end, just something that is safe and reasonably priced. I have a serious heavy duty flight case but for local transport it seems like a gig bag is on order. Let me know what you think and appreciate your thoughts!

Call Alembic for the standard hardshell case. If it's worth playing, it's worth a real case. Gig bags are the worst invention since pantyhose!

As for gig bags, I'm not quite as adamant as Peter, but it's close. I'll use a good padded gig bag (I have a Body Bag hard sided bass bag for my Series I 12 string and a Levy's hemp -what else?- bag for normal size guitars) only if I'm not traveling far, the guitar won't be loaded with other equipment, and the guitar will NEVER be out of my hands. Otherwise, it's in a hardshell case or, if I'm flying, a flight case.

I feel about my Alembic the same way I feel about riding my Harley, I will never ride without a full coverage helmet & I will never carry my Alembic in anything but a hard shell case for short trips & ATA Flight case for long trips. Bell helmets used to have an ad that said something to the effect of If you have a $50 head then buy a $50 helmet! I can't imagine carrying a $10-$20,000 instrument in a sleeping bag but that's just me! :-)

Thanks Wolf! My new Europa will be shipped in a Jan-Al flight case, so I won't even have a regular hardshell case for it. I want maximum protection for my investment!

I do carry my Epic, for short trips or close gigs, on a Mono Case semi-hard, well-padded gig bag (Have both the single and double bass versions, just in case I need to add a backup or the fretless). Since it has always been either very local stuff, or bigger trips/gigs, it is either the Mono case or the Flight Case. I have never used the hardshell case for it... yet.

Still, the Mono bag is, I think, a nice option. It is sturdy enough, and protects the instrument quite well. It looks maybe not as classy as some leather gig bags there are out there, but I feel the instrument is better protected on it than those. Again, YMMV...

Thank all of you for your informative and oftentimes humorous responses. All vey helpful. To clarify I would never ever ever travel more than a few blocks with an alembic in anything less than my ATA rated rflight case. An approved gig bag is simply for short distances in home territory.

Ibpesq, what exact model do you use for your Series 1? I assume it will fit with a series 2 Also, Anyone know a hard shell that fits the Series 2 with model number?

Like Juan Carlos I also have a Mono gig bag that I use with my Series I, however, mine is an Omega. I don't think I would put an Point Series in a gig bag. That, is asking for a pointless point... just my opinion...

I mistyped above. It is a Body Glove Hybrid bass gig bag. I use it for my long scale 1977 Series I 12 string guitar which is quite long given the extended knobby peghead. I don't believe Body Glove makes these anymore, but you may be able to find one used or old stock. You might also check out Reunion Blues who also makes top notch gig bags.

Isn't that one of his Spellbinder basses? Probably wouldn't hurt too much if it got smashed to pieces in a bike accident.
