I do carry my Epic, for short trips or close gigs, on a Mono Case semi-hard, well-padded gig bag (Have both the single and double bass versions, just in case I need to add a backup or the fretless). Since it has always been either very local stuff, or bigger trips/gigs, it is either the Mono case or the Flight Case. I have never used the hardshell case for it... yet.
Still, the Mono bag is, I think, a nice option. It is sturdy enough, and protects the instrument quite well. It looks maybe not as classy as some leather gig bags there are out there, but I feel the instrument is better protected on it than those. Again, YMMV...
