Yea, me too.  With this antiquated computer I use, plus the antiquated software (Windows XP) I just grin and bare it. Usually another try suffices...
I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

I get is as well, but,__ what I have learned in this lifetime is :
Don't sweat the small stuff___ In this case especially ,my love for the culture of the  Alembic Club is the more important aspect  and this software idiosyncrasy just  The small stuff.

I really have to write that the way that the threads allow consecutive cohesion in this system is superior to some other internet blog style systems that I participate in . So there is a good and a bad . I think that in this case the good out weighs the bad .

I get it quite often, too.  Even when I get it, I open another window and double check to see if my post posted or not.  At least half the time, it actually posted in spite of the error message. (I've learned to do this after numerous double posts caused by this anomaly).  I'm regularly on two other forums (Porsche 968 and Triumph).  Neither has this problem and both post MUCH faster than this one.  Also, the search function on the others works much faster.  When I need to search the Alembic forum, I use Google advanced search instead of the forum search feature.  Much faster.

BUT ... ON THE OTHER HAND .. the content and population of this forum makes it all worth it.

Almost always; usually have to exit the site & come back to get past it.

With regard to the file locking error messages, yes, they have been increasing in frequency.  Mica and Ron are working on the issue, and they think there should be a noticeable improvement by the end of this month.  The shop is also in the process of moving to a new internet service provider, which should also result in an improvement of the file locking error issue.  That switchover should happen within 30 days or so.  So, we hope you will be noticing significant improvement fairly soon.

And personally, I would like to add that I agree with the other sentiments previously expressed; that being able to participate in and be a part of this community is well worth these little quirks of our software platform.

Thanks!!

I get them maybe 25% of the time.  I give it a minute and usually it'll go thru the second try.

I'm old enough to reserve aggravation for much larger inconveniences.  Glad to be here, no big deal to re-submit occasionally.

I'd be even more glad vis-?-vis this forum if it were easier to submit larger pictures, if I were allowed a suggestion.

I get these from time to time but they always resolve quickly...I am a computer retard so I don't worry about it all and try not to go all 'HULK SMASH' on things...I'm stupid on photos so if someone could tell me how to post them here I could post my collection AND start that bicycle thread...Tony...funny that responding to this caused one of those errors...

Computer Programming is my day job so when I'm working  I get to dealing with all kinds of error messages regularly. So for me when I'm using computers in my leisure time seeing similar messages when I visit web sites or from software I'm using on my computer becomes like a red flag to a bull. :-)

I do persevere because I enjoy the forum and I don't like losing to a computer... hahaha. But it's frustrating when you write a considered response to someone's thread here then blam....you get the error and you never know if you are going to loose that writing, Re-doing it is never the same.

When I'm doing a longish entry I tend to write my comments in a text file and paste it into the forum rather than type directly in the box so won't loose my entry.

I will wait patiently until the improvements happen.

I get the error message almost every time I post, so I always highlight my post before submitting it & right click copy so if I loose it I will have it copied to the clipboard on my PC & can just paste it back on the post.

Jazzyvee,
If computer programming  and software is your vocation I can see why you would have a reaction to want to get to the bottom of the cause of the error message.

In the earlier versions of Protools from time to time there were the DAE error messages that used to be an obstacle to get the job done, but I learned how to steer clear of them. They were much worse in pre Mac OS X versions. My strong points have always been more as  a hardware geek in both audio and computer and IT ( information technology) .  Currently I have three old Apple Xserve servers with various  external AVID 10,000 rpm SCSI hard drives configured in both raid level  0 and raid level 1.

I am about to connect a fiber optic host card to one of my servers as a fiber channel interface  via an ATTO FIbrebridge 4500 that will also interface to an Apple Xserve  raid array containing 14   750GB hard drives  . With my SCSI arrays  and the Apple Xserve Raid I will  soon have close to 20 Terabytes of storage for doing analog to digital transfers.   My hardware could be considered old by cutting edge of current standards but it is quite solid and functional (it also keeps the room warm) , but it  has a larger footprint then the newest stuff and  does not have the data speed throughput of newest standard . I love it because I got it really cheep from the  Big Fishes in the industry when they often upgrade. Thats when  us little fish show up for the offered morsels and tidbits.

   Sorry about the long rant . Please don''t consider it a hi-jack ___ I was just relating ___ .

  • I thought I would not put anything in here...
I will (Gladly!) join the crowd in... Solidarity. Not only I have in common with Jazzy the experience of having produced and hosted a radio show (it lasted five years), but also with Jazzy and Sonicus on the experience of having a computer-related day job (IT Programming and management for a large ISP around here). Also, that DAE error thing with ProTools buggered me for quite some time, and had to become a fine-tuning specialist in order to have my studio up and running whenever it is needed, instead of wherever it feels like working. Nowadays IT day job is long behind (currently it is Music production, recording and gigging, teaching several chairs at an Audio school, and translating work), but it grows on you, or to be more precise it leaves a mark on you. Now the battle is with ProTools 10, and the wish for Avid and it subsidiaries to be more like Alembic (There, so it is not hijacking, Ha!) and for it to have Customers instead of Hostages. They have a lot to learn from our friends in the Mothership...
