Alembic visit
« on: February 26, 2015, 03:39:41 PM »
It has been a long time since I have been around these parts but I had a visit with Susan, Mica, Mary and Ron even peeked his head around the corner today. I got a chance to see lots of magic being produced and I also got an opportunity to exchange ideas with Susan and Mica about a possible future build.

Cool!  It always makes me smile when someone posts about visiting the shop; it reminds me of my own visit.  Possible future build sounds intriguing.

I like that little Essence hanging on the wall! Any more pics to share?

That's great that you got to visit. A fun time, no doubt!

Ah yes...The Wall of Dreams...

I really didn't need to see this right now - but I can't look away!

Much like how the Sirens sweetly singing lured many a sailing vessel to the rocks  - this wall is responsible for a few instances of temporary damage to my bank account - BUT WHAT A WAY TO GO!

Bottom line:

Quality craftsmanship and supernatural tone are priceless - for everything else there's a little magic plastic card!

Is that a short scale 6 string bass? The wide neck makes it look short!

That's Austin's 6 string. There is a Factory to Customer thread on this, 34 scale. Midi p/u too.

Since I dabble a bit in instrument repair, I would love to visit the shop part of the shop, almost as much as the showroom. I love in the FTC threads where you can see the various cauls, forms, and clamping mechanisms in the background. There's that - oh, so that's how they do that! in each shot.

Alas, I haven't flown since coming off the road back in the 90's, and I deeply detest the very thought of ever getting on an airplane again. Never say never though, especially for a visit to the Alembic HQ. Heck, I could be in Santa Rosa by car in... oh, maybe 4 days. =)

Gregory, I also like seeing how it's done. After my first factory tour I gained a whole new respect for these amazing instruments & the incredibly talented people who create them! I knew they were hand made but had no idea how much of what you see is done free handed, not by computer controlled machines!

It's always hard for me to take pictures when I go to the factory because I'm in such awe of the beautiful instruments & the legends who create them there! I tend to walk around with my jaw on the floor & forget to take pictures! It's truly a magical place! Here's some shots from my first visit - http://club.alembic.com/Images/449/108386.html?1310992283
