Fire at Wishbass
« on: February 18, 2015, 05:50:17 AM »
According to a post on Stephen T Wishnevsky's Facebook page, the Wishbass workshop was totally destroyed in a fire over the weekend.  Some prototypes were saved.

Wishnevsky plans to rebuild, perhaps using a Kickstarter campaign for funding.

That's really sad news.  Luckily it was not attached to their house and no one was hurt!

Thanks for posting this.  From the article:

If you?ve never seen something that you own ? a house or a building ? you can?t fully fathom what that feels like to see it engulfed in flames.

Stephen and Teresa ... mean a lot, to a lot of people.

I hope they are able to get going again.

Best wishes for the Whishnevsky's.
Thankfully their dogs alerted them, even though their home was 50 feet away, an uncontrolled blaze can do terrible things.

Very glad to know they are ok.
Very, very sad to hear about this being a total loss (uninsured business).

I've never played his instruments, but I've always admired his vision to realize his unique vision. I'm sorry to hear about this, but it sounds like he's got a good perspective. I wish him luck in rebuilding.

I've owned several of his instruments and have picked all of them up in person, people like to give him crap about his finishes and stuff but he really makes a fine instrument.

I've owned several basses and currently have an electric mandocello he made(pretty crazy).

They're having a fundraiser show for him at a club in Winston to help him rebuild.

I read in a Facebook post that Alembic shipped several fingerboards and clamps to Wishbass to assist in their rebuilding.

How classy is that?!?!?

*That* was a very, very cool thing to do. Makes me even more proud to own an instrument made by that calibre of folks.
