We all know that our guitars and basses
are numbered more or less in order of
the point of construction, but, where
do the F-1X, SF-2, F-2B and power supplies
fit in to the sequence? I have a somewhat
early F2-B and power supply with 3 digit
S/N's. Are these numbers reused on guitars
and or basses or are the devices stand alone?

Hi , show us a picture, The earliest F-2B's did not have an LED pilot light ,
but an incandescent instead if I remember correctly ( someone correct me If I am wrong )perhaps you might have one of those early precious ones !

I think that the serial numbers of the instruments are separate from the serial numbers of the F-2B's and such. Even the power supplies have their own serial numbers.

The earliest F-2B's did have an incandescent bulb with a Fender type jewel. The LED appeared at serial number 145. So I guess there are 144 with the jewel and bulb?

I have one of the earlier ones. Mine is just an F-2. I think the B was added when a jack on the back was added for mono. Mine is strictly stereo and is one of the first 10 or so that were wired up by Jim Furman. From what I've seen on her website she takes credit for the first ones. She states that the F in F-2B stood for Fender. That first run did not have enough filter capacitors in the power supply section. It makes for a noisy pre-amp. But it still sounds great!! I plan on modifying it one day to take the extra filtering to make it quiet.

My F-2B is not quite that old, the S/N is in the high 500's and my power supply is #420, what I was getting at is I have not seen a bass/guitar with #420. It would be interesting to see if anyone has a piece of gear that matches an instrument number. I have read some of the Furman back story in the past, interesting stuff.
