He's a young man in the flush of big success. He's having every guitar in the world thrown at him (along with lots of other things . . . . ), so it doesn't surprise me. Who wouldn't? Besides, between Steve Miller and Billy Gibbons, you could stock 30 or 40 Guitar Centers from their closets, and Eric auctioned 100 of his for the Crossroads Centre.

Should the day ever come when I'm invited to join Phil Lesh on stage to play some Dead tunes, I'm bringing along of my Alembics...not my PRS. But Mr. Mayer is free to do whatever he wants.

If I were so invited, I'd probably bring an Alembic or Alembic powered guitar, but I would admittedly be tempted to play my old ES-335, just like Bobby used to play.

Watching some of the vids Susan posted of Mayer playing a Further sold me and inspired me to place my order a few months later.

IMO, that guitar was the perfect match for the way he was playing in those vids.

The clarity and fullness of the tone were remarkable - really enhanced his finger-style technique without sounding harsh or sterile.
