What do you good folks suggest? Help with an E-bay auction
« Reply #15 on: June 06, 2005, 03:09:18 AM »
Hi Dave,

YES, you guessed correctly! I was the lucky high bidder! Talk about close, I was lucky enough to win it with my maximum bid! If the other bidder would have bid $1.00 more, he would have won it!

I can't thank everyone on this board enough for all the help and advice. I can't wait to see my husbands face when he gets the bass. I'll MAKE SURE he comes onto the board and posts a picture. I'm sure he'll have a big thank you for all involved.

Everyone here made the whole process so much easier. I don't know what I would have done without all the kindness and help.

There will be about 800 people at church that will now have the pleasure of hearing a 5 string Alembic during services. That is, after he learns how to play it!

I'll let you know when it arrives and how it all went.

Thank you all again SO very much!

Janey

Janey,

You may be interested to know that I'm an ordained minister, as well as a bass player. In church is where that bass has been for the last ten years. She worships beautifully!

Blessings,
Dr. J

Hi Dr. J!

Now, how neat is that? I guess this was one of those wonderful things that just happen for a reason.

I'm glad the bass will feel right at home being back in church! I can't wait to hear her sing! Thank you so much Dr. J! If it wasn't for your post, I just may have not bid on this wonderful bass.

You must be a (to borrow the phrase from some of the other board members) a VERY COOL minister!

We attend a Lutheran church that has just recently started to use contemporary music. Our praise team isn't complete yet, but we have two guitars, keyboard and vocalist, and obviously, a bass.

By the way, are there any available drummers out there on the Treasure Coast? Sorry, I had to put that shameless plug in!

BUT MY MAIN REASON FOR THIS POST IS THAT.....

I just wanted everyone to know that the ESSENCE arrived yesterday and it is EVEN BETTER than I hoped for! It is a BEAUTIFUL bass! The pictures actually made the finger nail damage APPEAR worse than it actually is. Tony is going to flip!

It was packed VERY, and i mean VERY well and made the trip without a problem. The seller was FANTASTIC!

Thank you ALL so very much. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the help! What a great group you all are.

Ok now; I know the PICTURES PLEASE chant is going to start, but I hope you all can please wait until AFTER Father's Day! The bass is hidden away so please be patient with me! I PROMISE to post a picture right after Father's Day.

Thank you all again & I'll be back with pictures very soon!

Janey

Great!!!  I'm glad it arrived safely; and it's great to hear that the fingernail marks weren't bad.  Enjoy!

Greetings to all!

I don't really know where to begin. I know it sounds kind of corny, but I'm very humbled. When I try to sum it up in one word, that's what I think of, HUMBLED.

I'm still stunned by the gift my wife of 24 years gave to me yesterday for Father's Day.

I just wanted to send out a HUGE, and I mean HUGE THANK YOU to all the wonderful people for helping my wife out with my SURPRISE. Janey said she NEVER would have tried this without your help. She was VERY NERVOUS shopping for something she really didn't know much about and (for our particular situation, expensive). So, if it wasn't for all of you, I probably wouldn't have my new bass. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

On Father's Day, Sunday Morning, everything was as usual. The family got up, got showered and we left for church. My 16 year old son (6'4 240lbs) carried my bass for me as he has done for about a year.

I normally arrive about 40 minutes early to tune up, get the music situated, etc. I toggle the latches on my generic case that houses my EPIC and THERE IT WAS. Janey took out my EPIC and put the ESSENCE 5 string in its place during the night! Talk about a surprise! I didn't know what to think when I first saw it! SO many STUPID things ran through my mind! Did I have someone else?s bass? How did it get in MY case? There are NO other bass players (that I know of) in our church. I looked up and the whole group was looking right at me! I took it out of the case, and underneath was a HAPPY FATHER'S DAY card under the guitar.

What else can I say? All I can say is HUMBLED, short and sweet. I stumbled through the entire service. My hands were sweating so badly, I had to keep wiping down the strings between songs! It felt so strange (but oh so sweet) playing another Alembic. It is going to take me a while to get comfortable with the 5 string.

What a STUNNING piece of work! I have my ESSENCE on the guitar holder right now, and I just can't stop looking at it.

My compliments to the folks at ALEMBIC. Your guitars should come with some sort of a warning label! May be HAZARDOUS to your health. Close contact with an ALEMBIC bass IS and WILL BECOME habit forming.

Thank you all again.

Tony

Hi Rich, Mike & Dave,

Thanks so much for the welcome and the well wishes! I really appreciate it!

What a great group you all are. I've been looking at some of the older postings to try to bring myself up to date with the group. Wow, you guys cover EVERYTHING!

Looks like I found a new place to hang out when I'm online.

The Mrs. just yelled in and asked me to say THANK YOU ALL again!

Thanks again!

Tony

Welcome, Tony, and congratulations on a great bass and even better spouse (not a valid comparison, of course).

You could spend months trying to catch up here, especially given that we tend to repeat ourselves :-) But at this moment in time, my recommendation would be that you spend more of your time getting to know that fifth string a little better. Or maybe thinking about what to do for your upcoming 25th anniversary?

And though I didn't have anything to contribute myself, I'm sure all of us would say you're welcome to Janey. Glad this turned out to be a helpful place. This was a fun trip, especially considering how often things on the web turn out otherwise.

Great story, welcome to the club.  There are a lot of real nice folks around here, who will probably be hounding you for more pictures of both your basses soon.

Tony & Janey, great Father's Day story!  Having someone 6'4 and 240 lbs guarding your Alembic is not a bad idea either.  Although given the venue it's probably not in much danger.
Congratulations on a beautiful new bass.  How about swinging on over to the Introductions area and let's see some photos of the Essence and the Epic.

If only I could find a girl like Janey.....

Thanks to you both for sharing your Alembic experience...don't you love it when a plan comes together?!
May you and your Alembics live long, happy lives together...........
Correction: there is 'much' money to be made above the fifth fret....

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

I am just SO hooked on these basses!

To take your advice Bob, your right! I'll have to put in a good deal of time with the Essence.

It's funny, I keep thinking the B is my E and my E string is my A string. I'm ok on a REALLY slow song, but as soon as I pick it up a bit, I feel like it's my first week playing again! Fumbles, fret buzzing, blown notes.....but, it's kind of neat in a strange way! I have to really think about what I'm playing now! I haven't done that in YEARS!

Well, I guess that's it for tonight. I'll post some pictures in the am. I MAY have a gig shot or two around here somewhere.

Good night!

Tony

Hey Sam, I'll take you up on that. I'll post a few pictures in the am on the Introductions Board
