Wanted: Distillate
« on: May 01, 2006, 03:56:34 PM »
I am seriously looking for a Distillate 4 string medium scale bass.  If you have one in the closet, dust it off and sell it to me!  If one doesn't show up, I might consider something with similar features.

Thanks!
Curt

The ad says it is a long scale...that would be unusual, as most distillates are medium scale.  Probably worth verifying.

It also has the longer upper horn that improves the balance, so it might well be long scale.

The picture of the build record does say DLSB, which I would guess means Distillate long scale bass.  I could be wrong, of course.

Yes, I am definitely still looking.

And that sure is a beautiful Distillate, but I am really looking for a medium scale.

And yes, I am pretty sure LSB stands for long scale bass.

By the way, I don't think the longer upper horn is just for the long scale (although it would certainly help with the balance).  I have seen that longer upper horn on every Distillate I have seen after about 1985, even on the medium scales.

So anyway, I guess I am STILL looking, so let me know if you spot any more of them.

Thanks,
Curt

Curt is correct, the longer upper horn was added in the mid 80's for better balance.  My '86 Distillate is medium scale and it has the longer horn.

OK, you can call off the search.  I am no longer in need of a Distillate... beacause... I just purchased one!!  And it is due to be here with me on Monday!

And I might add, hooking up with this bass, which appears to be exactly what I was looking for, was a direct result of this posting, and all the good folks here at the club.

So thanks everyone!

Thanks Southpaw!

What I can tell you so far, is that it is a 1986 model with walnut top, mahogany body, maple/purpleheart neck.  It is pretty much a standard Distillate, which is exactly what I wanted.  And yes, I have a digital camera here that doesn't get near enough use, waiting for the arrival of the bass.  So watch the showcase!

That was my bass. I'm a 34 scale guy and I just prefer 34 scale basses so I never really saw myself using it. So it would be sitting around doing nothing but collecting dust. NOT COOL! So, I got lucky that I did not have to put it on e-bay. I figured that since I bought my Series 1 off another member here that was the thing to do before you post it on e-bay. Curt's e-mail to me states that it is everything and more to him and that's what it's about to me. Dig in Curt!
