I'm trying to brainstorm ideas on how to use the stereo output on my Brown Bass. I was thinking of doing an envelope filter on one output with a fuzz or something on the other. And then recombining the signals somehow (I haven't figured out how I would do that).

What sorts of creative ways have people here used the stereo outputs?

F-2B!!! You can EQ the channels separately, then use the mono/summed output.

I do one clean and one distorted a lot. Distortion results in a smoothed out signal volume-wise, then when you dig in the clean signal jumps out more (even with compression).

hrm. can you even use the f-2b with a full head w/ preamp? would it be better to get a sf-2?

Good question(s). RE: using the F-2B with another amp - I don't see why not. I used a Fodera Model 2000 preamp in front of my amp all the time. That's all that active basses are, except with a preamp built in. At least that's how I thought of the F-2B. Just be kind of careful on the volume out of the F-2B. But someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm not sure if you can sum two separate signals with the SF-2, someone else will have to answer that one.

The best thing is to get both! I'm only half-kidding - the F-2B is so awesome for direct recording, I use it all the time, even for my synths.

I used to love running my Guild Starfire bridge pickup through a Small Stone and my neck pickup through a Y-Trigger Filter, then each into a channel of my old Ampeg SBT, EQed separately. I almost never used both effects at once. I'm talking mid-70s.

Not stock, I ordered it stereo from the factory (through a local dealer), and a natural finish as well in 1973. It's similar to Anniversary electronics, each pickup is separated in the cord with a stereo output jack to two mono 1/4 plugs. It also has ganged pots for the master volume knob , so the paths are truly isolated.

I've seen Guild JS-2's that were stereo, but never a stock Starfire. Sounds cool!

Yes, the F2B allows you to sum the signals. Many heads have a power amp input on the back which bypasses the preamp section, or you could just pick up a power amp.

I use an F2B into a SF2 into a Lexicon MPX G2 into an iAmp 800 active input. Works fine.

Yes, but you need to use a Y cable. With the superfilter in stereo mode, plug each P/U into it's own input on the back of the superfilter, then sum the outputs using the Y cable and run it to your amp.

When I was in college, in the late 70's, I wired each pu of my Jazz bass out separate sides of a stereo jack. I also made a y cable, stereo 1/4 to two mono 1/4. I ran the neck pup clean into the bass input of my traynor, and the bridge went through my little muff and a small stone into the guitar input of the amp. That was some big fun. Splitting you signal can open up a whole new world. I just read about taking a split signal through two envelope filters, one in an up sweep mode and the other in a down sweep mode, the possibilities spiral endlessly............
