Just wondering what others use on Tribute/Further?? Any preferences??

I use 11 - 48 on my Skylark and a few other guitars. I sent a set of Pyramid 12 - 52 nickle round wound to Alembic for my Further when it's finished. I have 12s on a couple other guitars too.

After years of D'Addario, I recently switched to GHS Boomers, .10 on top, on my Further and most of my other guitars.

I think I have 11's on my Tribute right now. Do you use 12's with a wound g string or unwound?

The next set on it will be 12's with a wound 3rd.

I use 13's on my archtop. You get used to the tension. With 10's I tend to pull chords out of tune. I can do ok with the 11's. I may go back to those after I try the 12's.

Wound G - slightly high action. Heavier strings and highish action gives me a nice clear, clean tone and an articulate, clearly separated overdriven tone.

Before I sent her back to the mothership for a refin, I was using D'addario Chomes 11's on my SI, but with a plain G..... If it wasn't a short scale, I'd probably use 12's

I use Boomers pretty much exclusively these days on my solid bodies. I used to use a .012 on the top but have for the moment moved away from this. I really like the GHS Boomers DYM set which has a .013 on the top and a .056 on the bottom.

Jimmy; I too love the wound third string. The DYM set has a wound .026 on the third string.

But string gauge choice is greatly determined by ones playing style. For example; if you frequently bend your first string up more than a full step I would suggest that you considder using a .012 or even a .011 instead of a heavier gauged string.

I put some Ernie Ball Power Slinky's 11 to 48 on the Further, wow! I never thought I'd like such a heavy string. Previous to that it was GHS boomers 10 to 49

Roger; can you say a little more about what you like about the string gauges you are trying. What are the pros/cons in your opinion?

Also put this in the context of your playing style. Are you predominantly a fingerstyle or plectrum player? Do you utilize bends much? Primarily rhythm or lead? Swing, jazz, Blues, or other styles?
