73 or 75 Series 1
« on: October 28, 2011, 09:20:29 PM »
I sold my 73 or 75 (when they stamped it, they double stamped, or something, you couldn't tell if it was 73 or 75) around 10 years or so ago to Nashville Discount Music.  (Traded for an upright, regret it.)  It was a Series 1, Zebra top and back, medium scale.  I gave them the original case and a purple flight case I had made.   I would like to buy it back.  If anyone has any ideas, or has it, or has seen one like it for sale...please let me know.

Ok this would be the strangest coincidence if it is this bass currently in the found on Ebay, Craigslist and for sale... area.

ag73 - is it this one you are looking for?  Can't imagine there are too many 75 series ones with two cases, including a purple flight case.

Hope this is your bass, hope you have $4000 on hand...

Kindest regards, Garth

The purple case is quite the coincidence... it would be great to see a reunion like this!

It is!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Thanks guys.  Unbelievable that it is turning up for sale after all these years!  Am I dreaming?!?!  I had checked Elderly once or twice before.  The purple case, I knew that would pay off one day!  Now I just need to sell the upright that I traded the Alembic for!  Thanks again, I am contacting them now.

I hope you don't take a bath in repurchasing what you traded in 10-years ago. Reminds me of a situation in which a friend of mine was working out in the Bay area about 9-10 years ago and was moved to Minnesota by his company. Thinking the move would be permanent, he sold in house only to be transferred back to SF 3-years later. The house he had sold was of course up for sale again and he repurchased it because he and his wife loved it so much. Unfortunately, the price was about $700,000 more than that for which he sold it originally.

As a person who found his old bass after almost 30 years of looking for it, I am really happy for you.  The price paid for recovery is not important, if the bass is missed badly.

Mica, just posting this here in case you don't see post on other topic...thanks so much for creating and maintaining this forum.  I would never have found my old bass without it.  Still working on getting it back...it has, apparently, increased value by 300 percent!   I wish the guy that sold it to Elderly had seen my post before he sold it to them  They are probably marking up about $2,000.  Also, big thanks to Garth4664 for passing on the info.  I would not have looked at the craiglist forum.  My wife has offered to sell one of her pianos to help me raise the money!  How sweet!  I'll post an update with the outcome.  Allen

Update...today is Sunday.  I called them on Friday and it was there.  It now says no longer available.  I can only assume someone bought it yesterday.   Hmmmm.  Pretty quick sale.  I guess this forum let me know about it, but let a lot of others know about it as well.  I was trying to figure out the money, snatched out from under me.  Disappointing.    Allen

As dear Paul would have said there will always be another.  I'm sure you'd rather not hear that just a better way to look at the situation.

I did write an email to Allen as soon as I saw Garth's post (within a few hours) to help make him aware.  Sorry to see that the outcome was disappointing.

Maybe someone bought it for you and will surprise you! I've been watching these threads, hoping that you would be reunited, but maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Keep us posted and keep an eye out - you never know!

Allen,

I keep my fingers crossed for you and your quest. Perhaps, the current situation is too simple to understand

Just based upon the facts in this thread, I would assume, that you called Elderly on Friday, told them about the history of the bass and your desire to buy it, and they just added an -not available anymore- to the ad to reserve the instrument for you...

I've had this Friday-was fine-Saturday-deal-was-blown-shivering-the whole-weekend-everything-turned-out-fine-Monday-Morning thing only once in my life, but it was a very special deal for me also, so here's wishing you that everything will be fine tomorrow,
