California Special Dreaming
« on: May 14, 2012, 03:41:02 PM »
Hey All,
I'm looking for a used California Special- 25scale, with three pups, preferably in blue, white, red, green, purple, orange, or clear  dark woods - Transparent gold or yellow not so much. I'm willing to spend between 1600.00 and 2200.00 - USA dollars. I'm a bass player at heart but recently started having fun with guitars.

I talked to a few people and my stated price range seems a little low. I'm willing to spend between 2000.00 and 2600.00 depending on condition.

Arunas:

As you may have noticed, Alembic guitars don't show up used all that often.  Cali Specials turn up on eBay once or twice a year.  Your price is not unreasonable.  One place you might try is Guitar Showcase in San Jose, CA.  They had a green Cali Special on consignment from Steve Miller for quite a while.  It might still be there.   Otherwise, keep checking eBay, this site, and keep your ears open.  One will always turn up sooner or later.  Also, I beleive the Cali Special is like a Strat - 25.5 scale.

Bill, tgo

Thanks for the advice Bill.
California specials certainly are less common, which is what makes pricing them accurately more difficult. I know of the greean Cali special at Guitar showcase. Several weeks ago I put  in a bid but after a week the owner of the guitar (not the store) still hadn't back to the store - so i pulled my bid. I might try again in a few weeks.
