De-tuner for series I crown peg head
« on: May 12, 2013, 05:57:34 PM »
Folks I would like to de-tune my E to a D. This is a picture of the peg head.
Does anyone have or know of a de-tuner (make and model) that will fit without any drilling?

I know they are currently Schallers. Gold colour
Thanks in anticipation of your efforts

That will work for the new style M4, the old ones have the mounting hole under the tuner...

Maybe you can send your tuner to hipshot for a conversion, I think they do custom jobs.
Or maybe you can drill a hole in the mounting plate of the new style type, mine is in the practice room now (will check later this week if the extra hole option is possible)

Drilling should be pretty easy with the right bit, as long as there's enough access to do it, and you have a vice.

Thanks Jerry and Flip.
I would like to avoid drilling the headstock.
I do have a vice (several actually)however it would not assist in this exercise;)

I was thinking of drilling the mounting plate on the d-tuner, not the bass, and then lining up the holes.

I received an email this morning from tech support at Hipshot who are pretty keen in getting pictures of what I require. That's pretty rapid service!

Very cool! I used to use one on my Jazz Bass. Seems harder to get one for an Alembic but you did a great job!

I've got one on my fretless Epic. It came on the bass when I bought it used several years ago, and sees occasional use. ;)

I've got one on my Distillate.
The tuner that was removed is now a Christmas tree ornament.
Have to find a thick branch as it is rather heavy . . .
