Hello there, I've been searching around the internet for the right one for a while now. Been tempted by a couple, but there's always something not quite right. So, here are my requirements -

Must have:
4 strings
Neck through construction
Mahogany body
Fingerboard inlays

Must NOT have:
Maple or Zebrawood top (negotiable)
Inline headstock
P and/or J pickups

So, Excels, Orions, Epics, and Persuaders are out. Ideally, I?d like an Exploiter, but would definitely consider a Spoiler or Distillate.

I've got an 86 Walnut Distillate, medium scale that would appear to meet your requirements and is pretty much pristine. If interested PM me and I'll send photos.

I'll send some photos will tonight to your e-mail after I get home from work. I had the funky strap extension removed and the bass looks a lot better. I do have the original case and the wood card.

You couldn't buy a better 'First' Alembic than this, and the price is right. Change out later to FatBoy 4's is it needs a little added snarkiness. The koa is very warm sounding (after all, it's mahogany's handsome first cousin from the mid-Pacific) and a great-looking wood. I'd prefer long-scale, but the 32 is just great, certainly lacking no bottom and easier to reach first position !

Tom ended up purchasing my 86 Walnut Distillate for a little bit more. It is, at this moment, on its way to Illinois. I played that bass for 7-years and ALWAYS thought it was a medium scale 32 because it played so easily compared to the previous basses I had owned. However, when I pulled out the build sheet to send to Tom, it turned out I had been playing a 34 all along. That says a lot about the the ease with which one can play an Alembic.

P.S. The Series I to which Jazzyvee referred in the original post ended @ $2,600. Surprisingly low with over 40 bids, but that may have been because it was fretless.

Joey, that Spoiler (or one like it) is pretty much what I was expecting to end up with, but for a little more money, I'm really glad to have landed this beautiful Distillate. It's everything I wanted in my first Alembic, and then some! Purpleheart laminates, bass and treble boost/cut switches, brass sustain block... Basically all the features of a Europa, but with the more traditional Alembic look that I wanted. Still anxiously waiting for the FedEx driver...
