Looking for a lower-tier fiver with LEDs
« on: June 21, 2015, 12:54:31 AM »
I have a couple fives, one of which I gig regularly, but I am missing the LEDs I had on my fours. Maybe the stages are getting darker, or maybe my eyes are just getting older. I'd prefer neck-through, but any age or model could work if it has LEDs and a reasonable price. About the only model I really don't like is the Epic.

I would be willing to trade one or both of mine if you're just looking for a change, and might even sell the Excel ahead of time to prep for the right opportunity.

My fives are an Essence formerly belonging to Trevor Lindsay and a single pickup Excel. I wouldn't let the Essence go until it was replaced by a similar bass with LEDs.

I have LED's on some of my alembics with one being an aftermarket set by https://fretfx.com
They may be worth a look if you don't find an alembic with them fitted as standard.
They have been on my bass since about 2006 and are still working fine.

Bob,  I agree with Jazzy on the FretFx,  I have them on 2 of my basses.

They are less than $100 and work just fine...

Yeah - they run about $100 for a set. I would definitely consider it, and have enough basses that I should just order a set and give them a try. It looks like they're a one-shot deal, so better pick the right instrument to install them on.

Yeah I'm sure I paid something like $70 US when I bought mine. They are supposed to be a one-shot deal but they seem pretty strong and have some kind of double sided tape. But i'm sure you could find a way to test fix them to different basses using some kind of weak sellotape or post-it notes kind of tape then remove the backing and fix it permanently to the one you decide is it's final destination.
