Looking for an ESP Horizon 5 bass
« on: September 09, 2015, 08:46:07 AM »
I will be in the market for an ESP Horizon 5 in a short time (have to do some more gigs for the funding)

Only the neck through version, color doesn't matter (though I'd prefer black)

Actually, a Japanese production ESP Horizon II.  I tried one of these once in a local store, and when I went back to get it . . . . . well, you know.  I love these as they have a carved top with the recessed knobs, and truly the craziest 'tummy cut' on its' flat backside, as if a giant, nosecone shaped router bit was applied, brilliant !  All Gotoh and EMG, all maple, terrific axe in an 80's kinda way, fine by me.

One of the lesser known 'Japanese Bass Explosion' axes from the 80's/90's, the same time and place that spawned the Ibanez Musicians, the Aria SB's, and the BB Yamahas, and the second-tier players like this, the TUNE Bass Maniacs, and the Double X Daions.

IF you find one, DON'T tell me ! !

The first thing i noticed was the strings are wound up the opposite way round the peg.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Yep :-)

Jazzy: I think the tuners are all the same (the ones that normally go on the treble side) so no trouble when tuning the bass. Putting on new strings will feel a bit strange though :-)

joey: Your post from a couple of years ago reignited the flame :-) Saw a lot of these on the metal stages in the early 90's, here's one example:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPL4EzOuiNw

and here's the crazy tummy cut Joey mentioned:

Wolf, isn't that just crazy?  Only the Japanese.  Now that I look at it inverted, were they watching lots of Star Trek?  If this was still made, would they invert it for the American user?

Thanks for the nod, Flip.  IF I were a collecting kind of guy, I'd skip Fenders and the usual suspects and have a set of Japanese basses from the 80's.  For me, they're gems, from a time that won't ever be repeated.  Why in the hell would I want some frumpy P-Bass or a moldy Jazz when I could have one of these or a Bass Maniac?
