EXCELLENT shape. I can't justify keeping this bass though. It's got a 2 small dings in the back (tiny (back body by the neck)).

Also comes with the original HSC.. Looks like they didn't see daylight much; the bass and case look that good. Plays like a dream.

For all of you who have followed this thread, Ryan and I are close to making a deal. I'm reaching out to the members of this discussion group to see if there is any helpful hints and/or ideas around packing this Bass for it's trip to Montreal, Canada. Shipping, insurance, duties & taxes have all be dealt with, only the security to prevent damages. Any and all help would be most welcome.

If anyone from the Alembic Family is listening in, a brief history of the Bass would be appreciated.

IME rule #1 is loosen the strings. I also wrap the neck in bubble wrap (under the strings). If there is enough room in the case or gig bag, I add bubble wrap there too. I tend to get a slightly larger than required box and fill it with newspaper or shipping peanuts after I've gotten the case / gig bag in place. Lately I've been re-using boxes that basses shipped to me have come in. That doesn't leave a lot of room for adding newspaper or peanuts. In those cases a flat sheet of bubble wrap on each side helps.

As far as security, I once sold a Series II in a Calzone case. I locked the case and mailed the key to the buyer in a separate package. That was probably a tad bit over the top. What if the package with the key had gotten lost?

If you want to ship a bass or guitar, always use a hardshell case. Make sure the bass fits in it's case and if there's space left use paper or bubble wrap. Try to get your hands on a material like polystyreen or polyurethan to create a buffer between the outside of the case and the box. In case of Alembic weight, at least 2 inches to absorb the shocks. I always create a ring around the case to absorb shocks from all sides. The standard for drop testing is about 90cm, 10 times. Each side and some corner droppings. Broken necks means packaging failure in most cases. Never use flat materials to cover the whole case, if you use a flat pad of foam that covers the whole case on the outside, the effect is the same as a flat dive into the water. It hurts. As soon as I have some more time, I will take some pictures of examples to create a cushion for safe shipping. I'm working as a graphic designer at a packaging company so plenty of samples to show you.
