I noticed it, too (like how could you miss a 1977 new,old stock S1 guitar or bass?!?).  Amaranth is purpleheart, right?  If so, the top and back look like they have mellowed exquisitely.  The zebrawood laminate is very unique and very cool.  I'd love to do something like that with a bass, if I build another.

Looking at this guitar seems strange.  It has little appointments (i.e. chrome tuners) that remind you it's a vintage Alembic - but you usually see those things on instruments that show their age!!  This one looks brand new, except for the mellowing of the wood color. I guess that's what they looked like...

Cool.

Yes, according to the Alembic site, Amaranth is Purpleheart.  And yes, I really liked the zebrawood laminate too.  Here's one of my favorite zebrawood ideas:

That's really striking!!  I've looked at that feature, but never noticed the side view.  Imagine what a zebrawood laminate could do for an elbow cut!

What zebrawood can do in an elbow cut - well this should give you a good idea: http://club.alembic.com/Images/411/4027.html?1082391520 - just go down a few messages from the 3 string EUB.

Thanks.  It does just what I'm looking for!  I think I'd like to see it put it together with a straighter grained or lighter colored top.

Why can't I find a bass like that?  That is really a beautiful time capsule instrument.  The finish is just stunning.  I am sure it is a great guitar.

I agree Michael.  I don't play guitar and wouldn't have a use for one; but that one sure would look great in the living room.

Well, Michael, at least you have your standards... when I first saw this, I was slightly concerned that it might cause you to switch from bass to guitar :-)

What an amazing find. Hope it ends up in appreciative hands.

Well, I guess that depends on who spent what for his Skylark when the flooring around the tub was already buckling down to the substructure..... after all.... Harmony is the name of the game...No worries, I'm laying the new tile next week..... Believe me, the youngster inside is having a full blown tantrum over not putting the bathroom off and bidding on this guitar....Ahhhh to be irresponsible again!..... On second thought....Nawwww, it took a lot of lumps to get to where I am now... Wanna see the scars?

I've tossed my hat into the ring for the Series I on ebay, but with one Alembic currently in the making, and rumblings of building another, I don't think I will be able to go the distance without backing from Senior Management. And while she's quite the good sport regarding my GAS, I fear that the bidding could escalate to the point of a hostile takeover! If it skyrockets beyond my maximum bid...well, alas. Just seems to be a once in a lifetime chance to own something so old...and yet so perfect.

We'll see.

Hi Jonathan,

It is indeed a gem.... I'm glad to hear you're bidding on it.  Good luck!
