I'm picking it up tomorrow.  It's not really a good time for this, I've got too much going on at the moment; but I decided I shouldn't pass it up.  So it will probably sit around in the way for a while.  But then what?  Now I have to start watching for a used Alembic that would be a good host for the electronics.  Wide taper vs. narrow taper, 34 vs. 32.  Then there's the problem with most non-series bodies not being thick enough for an upgrade to Series.  What have a gotten myself into???!!!

I feel like I am being drawn into the discussion by some strange force and am not sure about all this but we are all among friends here.   Submitted for your review is a 74 refin Series 1.  It has had it's top changed in it's past (by Alembic), and is now bookmatched to center. It has the newer pickup placement so that the neck pickup is further from the neck.  When the top was changed, the pickup switch moved to where new ones are now as well. It was drilled for a master volume.  It has a truss rod cover.  It is the older style large point body, but the point is somewhat more rounded than current models.   BUT - no Alembic electronics!  When I got serial number 74-130 from a fellow club member, the headstock was broken.  The electronics were no longer there (it still had the pick-ups and hardware).  I can e-mail more pictures, if you are interested.  The headstock was completely broken off. The top wood appears to be walnut?? and the back is flat sawn(sp?) zebra wood.  I was told that the core was Birch.  The neck repair poly top coats still need buffing (waiting for more cure time).  I figured it could cure while I was playing it.....  I can not afford factory replacement electronics.  I have repaired the headstock and replaced the missing electronics w/ a Bartolini NTMB-918 wiring harness (3 band preamp).  It is pretty sweet-- practically brand new factory refinish; however, I have a Rogue as well and probably should diversify.... with something lighter.  If you want to restore a piece to perfect vintage, this ain?t it (refin).  If you want a cool player, this might be it.  How much you say... flatter me...insult me...trade package...get me in or out of trouble w/ the boss lady ....whatever.  Any thoughts?  I reserve the right to wuss out of the deal.

Keavin; the bass isn't much to look at;
I bought it just for the electronics.
But if you want to see it, it's still up
on Ebay under completed items; search
for Alembic.

Pegleg; I'm giving your post a lot of thought.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but I may be able to put a Club member in touch with a person selling a set of S1 electronics. Stay tuned.
