These are outstanding basses, IMO. The one I had was the best playing bass I ever owned. The only reason I traded it was because it became redundant when I got my S II, and it was a shame to let it set around unplayed. My old bass in now in the hands of Groovelines, who now treasures it. I hope this one gets as good of a home.

Note: I am not much of a maple fan, but the combination of quilted maple and purpleheart on 20ths (And the Balance Ks I have seen recently) have become the exceptions. Plus the tone is nice and bright.

I've always wondered why the bridges tarnish but the tailpiece doesn't...

I believe it to be the case that as a general rule, not considering custom options, the taipieces are clear coated with polyester and the bridges and other brass parts are not.

You should not use Flitz on a coated tailpiece, gold-plated tuning machines or other plated hardware.

All 200 of the 20th Anniversary basses were made, plus the prototype PP001. They were all made in the Maple/Purpleheart combo or the Walnut/Vermilion (with M/PH neck) combo. I don't know how many of each flavor were produced.

Original straplocks were gold Dunlop recessed.

Dave's right about the brass parts - we coat the parts that don't have moving parts, unless of course you get everything plated.

I'm extremely satisfied with mine, the sound is absolutely inspiring. And after 15 years, the p-heart body lams have darkened to a deep purple-sienna, looks striking against the maple. And the neck: classic Alembic.
I had been holding out {sic: wishing fervently} for two years for a decent deal on a used Mark King Standard when the chance arrived. Didn't take but three minutes to make up my mind when a thread was posted in this forum. Patient waiting paid off in the end, best wishes to whomever wins this bass. Yes, I said wins.

Maybe so, but I suspect that the bids won't need to be as high as if it went to eBay. I hope someone gets this bass at a fair price and gives it a good home.

OK, I've checked out the electronics and had jack cleaned, new battery. Everything works. (It was popping out my standard mono cable jack but stereo jack works). I've got I think less than a half a dozen seriously interested and an offer on the table of $2.5K. I will email each party who expressed interest. I will end bids Monday 11/22 at 3PM Pacific Time (West Coast US). Buyer will need to send me bank check for price, including shipping and insurance per your instructions or carrier. On receipt of check I will ship. Sorry for bank check etc. but I'm not a business, its a lot of cash and I don't really know any of you. If you need more info or something about me I'll give it after final accepted offer. I will update on this site best/recent bid at least once a day and Monday a.m. (unless site administrator tells me this is not ok.) It is a nice instrument. Thanks for your interest.
