Hi George and welcome to the club.

No offense was intended from my previous post.  You just kind of fell out of the sky as a new member, new ebayer, and you came bearing an unusual Alembic.  Nobody around here is pissed, but I think all our radars went off when you showed up.  No offense was intended; we're just always on point when it comes to ebay and Alembics.  I think we see at least one ebay listing every week that tries to rip someone off by using Alembic.  Toss in the second chance frauds and it's a constant problem.

Thank you for the JE story.  I always like to hear stories of how people really are when they're just being themselves.

On the subject of your bass, do you know how it is wired?  Are the pickups just wired to cancel to each other?  Normally they would each be wired to the humcanceler.  (I wonder how much Alembic would charge to put in a humcanceler)

- Jim

Hi George; you may want to take note that all three of the people who have been bidding on your bass have zero feedback accounts, two of which are new accounts.  This seems a bit unusual; and it does seem that there is a chance that the bidding is bogus.  Hopefully, everthing will be shown to be legit and the end result will be a transaction where all parties will be satisfied; but you might not want to ship the bass until you have the winning bidder's funds safely in hand.  Your listing states you take PayPal.  If I remember correctly, one member of our group got burned when a buyer made a payment by PayPal and then within a very short period of time, somehow cancelled the payment.  It seems there is some short amount of time within which such a cancellation is permitted; but I can't memember the details at the moment.  So you may want to wait a few hours before shipping just to be sure.

dave, you may be speaking of something i wrote about in another thread regarding the ebay horror story and ebay fraud. at the time i sold my spoiler and my persuader vector, along w/a warwick infinity 5, i sold my beloved late 60's fender bassman head which i hadn't used in about 20 years.  the kid who bought it did so w/his mother's permission using her visa card to back the paypal payment. THE DAY AFTER HE RECEIVED THE AMP AND POSTED AN EXTREMELY POSITIVE FEEDBACK indicating complete satisfaction-----his freakin' mother tried to pull a b.s. chargeback/challenge of payment stunt on me. although paypal seemed to believe they could pull the money out of my bank account----which i'd already w/drawn from paypal and put in another bank account, leaving very little in the account tied to paypal, they never tried. they threatened, if that's the right word although it wasn't done w/any ugly language, but they never tried. i sent message after message to paypal and each of their responses indicated clearly that they had not read one damn word i actually wrote.  a complete idiot, as opposed to a partial one, could have seen this was a b.s. scam being attempted. finally, out of frustration, i used information to find the woman's phone number in washington state (i'm in san antonio), and i called her and confronted her w/her bull....! she contacted visa and asked them to drop her chargeback/denial of payment complaint. THAT, MY FRIENDS, IS THE ONLY REASON PAYPAL FINALLY DROPPED THEIR SO-CALLED INVESTIGATION.  the kid's mom stopped the crap-------but i want to tell you that 2 months later i was still receiving messages from paypal telling me they were still investigating and would release my funds to me if their investigation proved the denial of payment was unwarranted.  yes, you read that right. two months later they were still acting as if they had frozen the funds and were still investigating---------two months after another of their messages said the situation had been resolved in my favor because the buyer had abandoned her claim.  YOU JUST CAN'T MAKE CRAP LIKE THIS UP.  davehouck has been moderating here for a long time and has an astounding wealth of knowledge for us forum members lucky enough to seek his advice------but his knowledge isn't limited just to alembics. listen to him, george! following up on dave's advice and expanding-----if your paypal account is tied into one of your bank accounts (checking or savings), then w/draw the funds from paypal the second you can. then go into your account tied to paypal and transfer the funds immediately to your other account, leaving a minimal balance sufficient to have your bank keep that account open.  THEN, AND ONLY THEN, SHIP THE BASS...............and, as ebay horror story victim learned, ship the bass insured and require the buyer/receiver to present identification and sign for the bass personally------and ONLY AT THE BUYER'S CONFIRMED PAYPAL/EBAY ADDRESS-----NO PO BOXES OR ANY OF THAT CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, insuring your bass now-days is changing.  For example, as recent as last week, Fed Ex Ground no longer insures fine instruments for more than $100.00.  Fed Ex Express will go as high as only $500.00.  The reason for the change I asked Fed Ex?  Their answer: Too much fraud...So, my suggestion is to all those buying and shipping fine instruments: Make sure you have adequate extended insurance policies before shipping.

Following up on Tim's point, the last time I purchased a used bass that was shipped to me, I added the instrument and it's serial number to my insurance policy before the seller shipped it to me.
