Member since Oct-15-05 and 0 feedback

The odds of finding someone willing to gamble thousands of dollars on a zero feedback brand new ebayer is slim to none.

I've got a few questions/observations.

1) Series electronics but no hum cancel pickup?  So where's the hum cancel pickup?  Did alembic somehow mount it under the wood?

2) The Q pot for the first set of controls looks too close to the volume.  Volume/Q switch/Q pot have always been mounted symetrically on the alembics that I've seen.

I'm curious.

Full name of 'hasenbeensober', as registered with us, is Billy Biggerbelly.

I'm not curious.

I was called about this bass, I checked the file and yes, oddly enough it is a series bass with no humcanceler. Ron told me a very small number was done like that  back about 15 years ago or so; some customers did not like the look of the humcanceler and asked not to have it.
I was the one who told the gentleman who called to put it up on the club.
That set-up is not one we do anymore , however, so please don't ask for it.

Hey there hasbeensoberbeerbellybilly, sorry about the full frontal assault. There are some great people living here but watch out if they think you are messing with the herd.

For some reason,(name?, weird Series description?, continual ebay rip offs?) the crowd got restless. There would have been civil unrest a massing of troops had an order from above, Valentino, not advised us to step down.

Now listen here beerbelly, it appears you have several valuable assets to offer this beautiful kingdom.

1- The blessing of Viceroy Valentino.

2- A very cool and interesting bass.

3- A twisted sense of humor.

Next time may I suggest you give us a warning when delivering a curve. This wild pitch really got the old panties in a bunch.

Anyway, welcome aboard my man. Now that you are known and loved, we will give you lots of money and questions.

First question, is that your birth name? If it is, man I wish I would have been your parents neighbor. I got neighbors now that call the police if I open the case of my bass, nevermind a case of beer.

If I may quote James, Peace.

Gary thanks for the welcome and I'm sorry if I pissed off the Alembic Klan. I'm very reluctant in selling this bass in the first place. Like you and all the other bass players on this post when looking at one of these basses, one person comes to mind, John Entwhisle. I basically learned how to play from this man growing up. I would fight my way to the front of the stage and watch him play every time The Who would come around. Then the greatest event next to the birth of my children occured. I met and ending up getting shit-face drunk with John in Chicago at a club I believe was called The Vick in 1986-1987. I'll never forget after sitting at the table we decided to get up and walk around, John says to me I've got to use the restroom and proceeded to walk right into the womens restroom and thats the last I saw of him. Approx a year later I met up with him in Los Angeles and ending up shit-faced again. We joked around and I asked him how he's been and his responce was haven't been sober so that's were hasenbeensober came from. During this time with John, we talked about The Who, and I asked him how the hell can you play like that. Anything you would ask him he would go into full detail. My bass playing days were coming to an end in about 1992. I decided to go back to college and go down a different path when I came across the Exploiter in a small music store.  It was like finding the Holly Grail! I've had the bass since and have decided to cut it loose. Once again it's very difficult for me to let it go but would rather see someone play it rather than having it just sit in the case.

Long Live John Entwhisle

Hello George,(ya know, I really like your stage name)if it were known you hung out with the big E, there would have been bowing and scraping rather than hissing and booing.

Great story, you are a lucky man. Hell if I was Mr. Entwhisle, I'd make it a habit to use the ladies room.

With your influences and interests, what took you so long to land here? BTW, thanks a pantload for providing the history of your beautiful bass. Now instead of running from it I'm trying to sell my car, dog, blood, & Mom to buy the dang thing, crap!

Be advised, I don't think anyone was pissed. Shoot, the site was all abuzz. It is actually quite an interesting adventure whenever an unusual bass comes along. The folks on this site have an incredible amount of knowledge, experience, and expertise (I'm not one of them) when it comes to Alembic and the world of music. It's quite amazing to watch the forces mass when something appears sideyways. If your shopping for a nice bass, being a member here is mighty protection from some of the animals on the prowl.

Great stuff, glad you jumped in, good luck and enjoy.

Hello George,
Welcome to the club.  I second what Beelee and J Gary said.  I don't think you pissed anyone off.
You'll see that we all just try to take care of each other around here.  I'm fairly new to this club and Alembic ownership.  I really appreciate it when members with lots of knowledge and experience about Alembics, E-bay, PayPal, etc. warn the rest of us about claims and conditions that warrant extra attention.
I think you'll have to admit that when you add up zero E-bay feedback, very first Alembic club post, pretty large investment in an instrument, Hasenbeensober, and Billy Biggerbelly it all deserves a pretty close look (LOL).  We don't automatically assume a deal is a ripoff and a seller is a crook but we do point out things that appear unorthodox.  There have been for sales that were outright fraud, gross misrepresentations, fake second chance offers, etc. that got the spotlight from this club.  The crooks just slink away and disappear.  The honest ones appreciate the feeling of comfort we get from so many sharp eyes and minds watching the second hand market and reporting back what they perceive.
I liked the story about JE.  It's very cool that you had some unique experiences with him just being a regular guy.
Again, welcome to the club.
Rich
