$1300 plus shipping gets you a fine Epic of the fretless variety. (I'm also willing to trade for an upright bass, and have a rickenbacker for trade bait as well.)   Specs:  Figured maple top, purpleheart accent laminate, mahogany body.  Neck is 3 piece maple.  Ebony fingerboard with maple lines.  Currently strung with Thomastik flats (you know you love them!) in BEAD tuning.  There are a couple of dings and whatnot, as expected for a 10 year old instrument, but nothing severe.  Overall it's in great condition.

A JetGlo 4003, made in 1997.

The trade I was thinking of was one or both basses for an equal value upright (acoustic).

Ahh,

Sorry, I saw Rickenbacker and jumped!

One of the forum members purchased a Rickenbacker with Alembic pickups in it and I was HOPING this might have been it.

I can't remember who it was and I couldn't find it in the search area.

IF the owner of that bass is reading this feels like selling it at a nice profit, drop me a line at the address in my profile!

I was outbid on it when my sniper misfired!

Thanks!

Tony

Joris,
In addition to shipping cost don't forget the various import and VAT taxes you will have to pay. This is something you will have to check into locally.

Thanx for all the advices on those extra costs. I've checked the douane site, but that doesn't make things very clear. Does anybody have any experiences on added costs for shipping such a bass to the Netherlands (or anywhere else in Europe)?

p.s. Adriaan: hallo vanuit Amsterdam!!!

I once sent my Spoiler electronics to the mothership for repair, so I know the situation with the US.

The sender has to declare the value of the object (green sticker on the outside of the package, or shipment letter). Dutch customs can charge 25% of the declared value as import duties, and 19% BTW on top of it all, to the recipient. It doesn't matter if it's a second-hand item. And they keep the goods until you pay up. People have said that customs do not check every single item, but a large and heavy box will not escape notice, I think.

Now in my case, if I had declared the package that I sent for repairs to the US, with Dutch customs, then I could avoid taxes on re-importing the same item (or at least be able to re-claim them).

The value quoted by the sender is also the value for insurance - wink wink, nudge nudge ... just be aware that it is a legal offence to quote a price that is too low, exactly because import duties are involved.

Anyway, if you're using regular postal services, insurance never pays out more than 500 euro.

De mazzel!

Hmmm, this all starts to sound a bit scary. Better wait till i've checked out all before i'm buying your precious bass, byoung. Sorry... Spiffie

En bedankt voor je uitleg adriaan, de koers van de dollar pakt uiteindelijk door de douane toch niet zo gunstig uit...
