90 Persuader five
« on: January 21, 2007, 06:33:23 PM »
This was the first Alembic I got my hands on.  It is a 32 scale Persuader five with soapbar pickups.  The top is lightly flamed walnut with a mahogany body.  The neck has three purpleheart stringers for a nice meaty tone.  This bass hasn't been out of the case in a year since I have gone hardcore back to four strings.

See pics and some discussion here.

Looking for $1500 plus actual shipping.

I'm possibly interested in you Persuader. My e-mail is korg@comcast.net. I live in southern NH so if I can get the wife to buy into the idea we could meet and deal in person. Shoot me off an e-mail when you get the chance and I'll let you know if I'm bending her to my way of thinking! :-)

I need to go to bed.  I thought it was a Persuader with five soapbar pickups.

I can't imagine the electronics package it would take to support five pickups.

Ray, I'll check in with you tomorrow for details and a current condition report when I pull it out.  I vaguely remember a beat-up original case and some finish checking on the back side.  A local deal sounds promising if it works out.  I hate the risks associated with shipping instruments.

Bob .... I hate to say this but I can't buy your Persuader right now. Gerrrrrrrrr

I checked my band schedule and reality kicked in. I still have a few grand owed on a Mackie sound system I bought on credit and using band money it'll take me several more months to pay it off. (I play music part time now and that's my equipment money) So I have to pass on your Persuader... and it breaks my heart! If you still have it a few months from now I'll be interested but I suspect you'll sell it fairly quickly! Again sorry to get your hopes up on a pending local sale. (Sorry I got MY hopes up too! :-)

Peace
Ray

You didn't save any of the proceeds from that Stick sale, eh?  We'll see what happens.  I am in no great hurry to sell the bass, so if no one steps up, it could still be around.

There aren't too many affordable neck-through Alembic fivers out there.  I think the purpleheart in the neck on this bass gives it a superior tone to any of the all-maple-neck four string Spoiler/Persuaders that are floating around out there.

Aaa yes, the stick. :-)  Another toy I wish I could have afforded to keep. Like a lot of musicians I go through equipment like water and for better or worse have good good credit I'm not afraid to use. Recently I stepped up to the plate and bought a FULL Mackie sound system for my band. Awesome and SMALL system for the sound and power it pumps out. Powered tops, sub and sound board ... and I got a great deal ... BUT I CHARGED IT! I picked up a nice cheap (cheap compaired to Alembics) Yamaha 5 string fretted bass because I didn't still own a fretted 5 string since selling my Epic and needed one. And frankly gave up on the idea of owning a neck through 5 string Alembic bass until some time in the future. (My Sc standard is a 4 string and my other 5 string is a Modulus fretless.) Then I saw your add and said to myself ... nice bass, decent price ... I WANT IT! But like I said ... I checked my band schedule, checked how much I still owe on the sound system and reality kicked in. ....... Bummer! :-) BUTTTTTTTTT if you still have it in 3 or 4 months I'll buy it!!! And if it sells ... well it's my loss. Because you're right ... affordable neck through 5 string Alembics that are in good shape are rare!

There have been a few queries on this one, but nothing that amounts to solid interest thus far.  I will be pulling this bass out in the next day or two to give it a once over and confirm details on condition and status.

Insured shipping looks like about $25-$45 depending upon the distance from MA.

What I said earlier about the beat-up case and finish checking on the back is true.  As such, dropping the price on this one to $1450 delivered.

The bass is in fine player's condition, fully functional with a straight neck.  There are no issues with regard to playability or audience appeal, but there are quite a few dings around the body. The light finish checking is on about half of the back, but the rest of the instrument is unaffected.

The case is protective, but has lost a lot of tolex around the edges.
