This is probably crazy, but just a curious question.
I am only 5Ft 6 tall and have a 34 Series 1. There is no point in denying that she is huge!
Would anyone consider swaping for a short scale Series??

Mine is a 1976 Series 1 with upgrade--

George - This sounds familiar!  I had the same problem back in the 70's.  I bought a new Alembic back then, and just could not get used to the size of the body.  I too am only 5'6 and that body size was way too much for me.  After playing it for about 6 months, I swapped it for a small standard, and I have never regretted it.  You may be better off selling the large one after you acquire a short scale.

Well, firstly Graeme,--the bass is truly brilliant, but-huge!!
Secondly, thanks Keavin for adding the pic.
Lastly, thanks Michael for understanding how us little guys feel.
I'm going to take her out on Saturday with me and see how she feels again. Sound wise, i know she'll be perfect, even through my crap gear.
I had this syndrome before, about 2 years ago because I only ever played her at home (too scared to get her damaged). Once I got out there and got used to her again, the size thing never seemed like an issue at all (YES, YES, YES now gentlemen!) and she just felt SO normal.
Will keep you all posted about the outcome
Sorry if I've waisted anyone's time, but--well, A guy must get it right!
Infact, I'm just going to plug her in now and see what happens.

Im about 5'10, and when I first got my series I, I too was wary of the size, I was sooo used to playing jazz basses.  I honestly never thought Id get used to the size, and I also thought Id never get used to playing in the first position, everything just seemed so BIG...I took me a good six months at least of constant playing and practicing to grow into that bass...Keep playing it, and dont be afraid to take it out...

Georgie Boy,

I'm 5'7 and my main player is a 5 string 34 scale Series II.  The large 5 string headstock makes my bass a little larger than yours.  I strap it up high and often swing the body off the side of my right hip.  This puts the lower frets right where I need them.

Peace,

James

Thanks James.
I strap mine at the same height as you now and do the swing off the hip thing. Works just fine!
She's not for sale or swap now!!

Thanks again
George

Man, I wish I could do that. The higher I strap my basses, the worse my back problems get. I tried that with my Alembic once and I could barely move for days after.
