Possibly selling my Triple Omega - UK
« on: April 10, 2007, 05:31:51 AM »
Well, I've tried and tried not come to this decision, but I'm beginning to think there is no other option. I can't play it standing for any period of time and I can't play it seated either. It's not actually that heavy (maybe 11lbs,I'm not really sure), but the way my back is it's too heavy for me now; it's just not really worth it anymore. Sometimes beauty comes at too high a cost.

So, I'm inviting interest in my Triple O, based on a MK Sig Standard but with extras including superb (and I mean superb - the nicest piece I've ever seen!) walnut top and back facings, knobby headstock, dummy humcanceller, purpleheart kneck lams, and  both collet and hat knobs (just take your pick depending on your mood!). The bass is mint, sadly has never been gigged or even rehearsed, and has been in a smoke free house since it arrived. See Factory to Customer thread Shaun's Triple O and showcase thread Bigbadbill's Triple O Sorne-Rama for pics and details.

As it's mint, and assuming I do decide to sell,  I'm looking for ?3000UK.

WOW that is a beauty of a bass.... However, 3 grand sounds high when you say if slowly but then in the UK we have to pay a premium for our beloved alembics, new or used compared to the US.

All the best with the sale anyway. Bang it on e-bay and see how you get on.

I'd love it if it were nearer my budget.

Hi Jazzyvee. Yeah, it does sound like a lot, but it cost me ?3700 3 or more price rises ago; I guess it'd be more like ?4500 now (Mica or Val, I did e-mail for clarification of current cost but didn't get a reply?), and as I say it's mint. The wood is spectacular too, pictures don't begin to do it justice. If I can't get in that ballpark then I'm not selling; it took me 20 years to finally get one, and three years to pay for it!

To be honest though the thought of selling it is horrible; it's just that keeping it seems pointless at the moment, when I can't really use it. And I've thought about ebay (my first Alembic sold on there) but the thought of my beloved Triple O going on the 'bay is a bit much for me at the moment. If she doesn't go on here, assuming I do decide to let her go, I may put her in the Gallery in Camden.

Yes I don't disagree with you current prices. When I was looking for mine, it would have been cheaper to fly to LA and pick one up from Alembic rather than pay the UK price from a dealer. Fortunately when I got my SC, the Bass centre had batch of alembics them they wanted to shift as they were not selling. So they were on sale at 25% off the RRP then I negotiated downwards from there... :-).

I don't do many gigs with mine but it took me over 20 years to get one and I have no intention of selling it. I know I'd miss it.

I do understand about the reluctance to sell such a great instrument on ebay. I hope you get a sale here. I'm sure as an advanced member you must have seen many alembics pass between members.
All the best.
Yes I agree it is a very spectacular bass. I'm not a fan of the regular Mark King bass shape but the triple O is a great shape. Let's hope I win the lottery this week then we will both be happy.

All the best

I think I remember that sale. Didn't they have a Brown Bass going (relatively) cheap?

You never know, maybe I'll win the lottery and then I'll just keep her regardless!

I only saw the one in the shop in Birmingham, all the rest were in London and to be fair they did offer to bring some more up for me to have a look but I liked the coco bola one they had and that was fine for me.

Actually they had it labelled and priced as SC Standard but I emailed or phoned through the serial number to Mica and she confirmed it was a deluxe. I decided not to challenge the shop assistant on their superior knowledge and got a better bargain lol.

Buyer beware lol

Hi,

Would you consider a trade for a Warwick Vampyre LTD?

You may want to start your own thread in the introduction section, Jake, to let everyone know you are here. Folks are more apt to say 'hello' and greet your from that venue. Good to have you here. Be careful though ? these Alembics are mighty addictive!

Hi Jake

Thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid I'll have to pass. My Warwick days are behind me now.....

Hi Bill,

I  am sorry to see that you have to let go of that gorgeous triple omega.  I do not work for Alembic anymore, so I can't help you with the pricing, but I am sure Mica will reply to you as soon as she has time.

Good luck with the sale
