Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train
And I's feeling nearly as faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
It rode us all the way to New Orleans.

Ripped off and run out of town
Had my guitar burned when I was clownin'
Haven't slept in a bed for a week
And my shoes feel like they're part of my feet
Let me come down where I won't be a bother to no one
Let me unwind please give me a hole to recline in

Knocked on my friend's door in moody texas
And asked if he had a place for me
His hair was cut off and he was wearing a suit
And he said not in my house, not in my house
You look like you're part of a conspiracy

Now I'm six hours out on strawberry flats
Trying to get to Waco 'fore it freezes over
They're stopping every one who looks too wierd
At the ghoul bust Texas road block
Oh let me come down where I won't be a bother to no one
Let me unwind please give me a hole to recline in

Got a ride on a highway king
Made the cross road by nine fifteen
If I don't find a place to crash
Well I might as well cash it all in

If I was a no 'count gambler or a Texas fool
Or a millionaire with a suit and real short hair
Or do you even care

This thread appears to be about all the flats and why there are so many.  Busted flat was the first flat that came to my mind.  And then Wade posted about Strawberry Flats.

If you go down to the gas-powered flatland
where most of the people just think
that they?re free
Remember the peace that you had
on the mountain
come back to the love that you had here with me

Bill, tgo

On a sort-of-related note:  Got tix for Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard alone on acoustic guitars tomorrow night!  YIPPEE!!!!

Hm, I think I'll get out Bach's Wohltemperierte Klavier tonight and find out how many flats it takes for me to run out of my comfort zone.

Flats don't bother me.  6 flats is painless, 7 is a little stressful, but then just bring another bass, tune down a half step, and play in 'C'.

I'm playing for Les Mis next month, and there are a couple numbers in a large number of sharps.  I fund sharps (more than 4) more difficult to sight read.

I like flats better than roundwounds. They're easier on the bass neck and my fingers.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

fmm - tune down a half step, and play in 'C' - that doesn't work if you have perfect pitch, at least not in my case.

I can play bass or guitar tuned down, and I can transpose on the spot, but I cannot play in pretend-C. It is what it is.
