Hi, I am a brand new member to the club which I didn't know exsisted. I hapened to find out about the Club while talking to an Alembic rep on the phone. I was trying to find out what my bass was worth, and I was told to check out the Club. I was shocked to see how much Alembics seem to lose in value. The guitar is one of the best made guitars I,ve ever seen.

Yep... pretty big depreciation up front, but then they hold their value pretty well.  Of course now is not the time to be trying to sell ANYthing.

Welcome to the club- As Mike mentioned, they do take a steep hit if you get them new, but used Alembics hold their value VERY well.

Post a few pictures of that Epic when you get a chance.

Welcome to the club David.  In regard to this being a tough market to sell something in.  I wonder how long it will take them to sell this:  first line production 1998 GIBSON LES PAUL ULTIMA
Price: $850,000.00.

For those interested in buying it.

Moderator please remove my above post.  It is making me quite ill.  At least get rid of the picture.  I should have never posted that thing on this site.  No offense intended to anyone at anytime.

No need to either apoligize or remove, Carl - it's a beautiful (if obscenely over-priced) bit of guitar porn.

Hey Dave

Back to your original comment, Its something that we deal with on every level. You buy a porsche (and a damn fine machine it is for 70-90k) and in only a few years its worth 20k. Conversly, I bought a 68 camaro in 1972 for 3k with 2000 miles on it. It was the hottest thing on the street (and a tin can piece of S**T), but there weren't any porsches...least not where I was. Now the camaro is worth 500k and the porsche is discarded. I guess what I'm trying to say is value has no relation to function, workmanship and quality. It's how many other people want them. The qback on the football team in small town america was driving a Camaro in 1972... not a porsche and thats why we want them (yeah I was). A lot of other people must have wanted Camaro's when I was a kid cause they are paying a lot more than 3k for them now and I wouldn't take one for 500 dollars. But I'll still pay a premium for a great piece of machinery...car or guitar. I'm not saying that a real vintage 50's strat or tele or a les paul may not be a nice instrument... but values are all screwed up.

Toby, you have me scratching my head ha ha. How did you know I had an Epic. Is that the model that looses the most value the quickest, or is that the one that everyone complains about the most?

Boy you sure hit the nail on the head Barry about people having values all screwed up. When it comes to guitars, it always seems to come down to wheather or not the right guy made them popular or not.If the right guy endorses it then everyone will want one, and the value will be high
