This is mostly for fun, since I really love these basses and am not really serious about getting rid of them. I just kinda want to see what kinds of Alembics people would offer for these two Alembics. This is what I've got on my plate:

'96 five string fretless Essence:
here

Condition at least 9.8/10

'91 five string medium scale distillate with cocobolo top and side LEDs:

Condition is at lease 9/10: some minute dings, a bump on the butt and a small fret issue that limits low action settings. Should be fixable.

I'm not interested in hearing cash offers for either or both basses. Nor am I interested in hearing about non-Alembics.

Nice basses, especially the Distillate. You don't want to get rid of them and you want to know what people would offer, but you're not interested in cash offers or non-Alembics? Trade only, or maybe I just don't understand something here?

I'd love to own that Distillate, but I am low on trade-able Alembics at the moment. If I had one to spare, it would be an '03 SC-looking bass with Europa electronics and side LEDs. Value-wise, I am guessing it would be a pretty even swap, but I use the bass all the time.

I have been theoretically interested in adding a short or medium scale five to my stable with a high C tuning. I just haven't seen one that I could get for a reasonable price to perform this experiment. Playing in a band with only one guitarist, there are times when it would be useful. Most of the time, I am playing the bass, but sometimes I have to play signature phrases over his chords or do something more chordal while he plays a lead or hook phrase. That extra skinny string could prove useful in making those things sound better, but I am not certain enough to pull the trigger on a more expensive solution. I am probably also not certain enough to let go of my primary gigging bass to give it a try either. If you decide to sell outright, look up my profile and send me an email.

One of these days i need to try out the high C instead of the low B.

Hmmm, the Europa may be worth it due its condition/sex factor, but the distillate alone does eveything the europa does (minus continuous pickup selection) plus 5 strings, leds, cocobolo, medium scale. It's a sexy bass for sure though, are those ebony laminates?

Hi Devon,
Now, for your Distillate what type of Alembics would you like to consider for the trade?
Are you looking in changing the scale to a bigger one like your Essence? Maybe you do not like the narrow neck style? or Electronics?
I have an Essence 5 with a Q-switch added, sounds good...but I dont feel the wider neck as confy as my Series 1 or my Distillate as an example..
What is your case?

I think I like the medium scale, distillate spacing, though i'm open to other stuff. I'm even open to 4 string short scale (looks at brown bass owners).

As far as the Essence, does it have bass/treble? I really like those controls.

Yes, basicaly this bass is like your frettless, with the addition of the Q-Switch (more tones)

It's a 92, has a Flame Koa top, mahogany body, maple pinstripe and a 7-piece maple neck with ebony fretboard

To be honest, that doesn't look like flame koa, I think it's 'watermark' koa (I have 2 basses with both varieties - check my profile). It's not as spectacular as flame koa, but still very lively: it changes a lot depending on the lighting.

Hmmm... They have it registered as flame Koa, may loose some flames already?

You are right, depending on the light it changes..It is like having differents tops for the same price
