Well, I had this bass buildt by british luthier NS Guitars. It is a replica of Johns first Axe bass, see picture. Received it today and I must say it is not my thing, soundwise. I am really stuck to my beloved Alembic sound. This one is pure J and P Bass. So this is brand new. The only minor thing is that is has some black spots at the top of the headstock which is not visible in the pictures. Comes with a hardshell rectangular case. Price I paid was EUR 950 (around USD 1400). I will let it go for EUR 750 (around USD 1100) plus shipping. Many thanks for looking! Oliver (Spyderman)

Oliver, that is really neat - I like it. What year(s) did John play that one? Is it in any of the recordings?

Nike must had stole the shape from this design.
This bass really has a cool Mod 60's look to it...

Eff,
he played that first version Axe in 1967-1968.
The second version, buildt by Peter Cook and equipped with a set neck with T-Bird headstock, can be seen in the Tommy movie...

It so happens I'm watching Tommy a lot lately, and I found myself wondering if that wacky T-bird axe bass was a prop or a real instrument. Great sequence with a supremely stiff Clapton.
