1996 Mark King Signature Deluxe V in Purpleheart
« on: May 09, 2009, 07:18:47 AM »
I'm selling my Mark King V in Purpleheart. #96MJ10101. I also play acoustic guitar and the only reason I'm selling this it to buy an Olson. I thought I would offer it to fellow club members before I offer it up to the masses on ebay. 4K plus actual shipping. Local pickup and inspection is fine. Thanks for looking. Don

We always see the purpleheart in thin little neck strips.  You would never know it could have nice figure like that.

Don, you might post a little more detail.  A purpleheart-topped MK is clearly someone's custom order and could have other variations.  Most important among them are the scale length and other woods (core).  The shiny pictures make the bass appear to be in almost new condition.  Are there any dings or scratches that don't show in the pics?

I'm not personally interested, but someone who is will undoubtedly ask you these questions.

The bass has appeared in several other posts which is why I did not list a ton of details. The bass is long scale and it is as clean as the pictures show. Maybe a light surface swirl but that's about it. I play worship music with it and it has gotten very light play time. As I stated in an earlier post, I wanted to give club members a shot at it first. If it goes on ebay, I will take some outdoor picures (if it ever stops raining in Michigan) and list more details. The bass sounds great and gives my Series II a run for it's money.

When/If I ever get myself out of my current real estate quandary, I want a Purpleheart topped bass.  That is beautiful.

That SC V listed in your profile sounds interesting, but I am too hooked on shorter scales to go for a 34 incher.  Good luck with the sale!

I'm out of town until Tuesday evening. I'll weigh it on my digital scale and post it. It's not a feather but it sure is lighter than my Series II V.

I owned that bass and sold it at a local music store in my area, so I could purchase my Series II. It's interesting that you used the photos that I posted when I owned it...Can WE see updated photos? Where did you purchase?

I purchased the bass on ebay around a year ago. Yes, those are not my pictures and if they're yours, thanks. It has rained or been overcast the times I could take pictures. I would not have used them on ebay, but did here as they were already elsewhere on this site. I planned on taking new picutes today as the sun is actually out. It will be up on ebay later today. I also bought a Series II V. The guy I bought the MK Purpleheart from lived somewhere down south. He bought it from a guy in the Denver area (I think). Is that you? Here's your chance to buy it back. Thank you.

Two more things: Did you buy it new? Is it a Standard or a Deluxe? I thought with the purpleheart back it is a deluxe. Thanks again.

The MJ in the serial would indicate a Standard not Deluxe as would the no PH lams in the neck. BUT the standard doesn't usually have a laminate on the rear of the bass.

I would assume it is a standard with a rear laminate upgrade.
