1977 Alembic Series I
« on: May 30, 2010, 04:56:15 PM »
Hi everybody,

I'm trying to raise funds for another Alembic, so unfortunately I need to sell this one.  This is the bass that was owned by Mark O'conner of the Dixie Dregs.  Here's a vid of Mark playing a mean fiddle:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rkNYcmxKNA

This bass is definately one of the most unique older series you'll see, with it's crazy walnut top and back and the Padauk fretboard.

It sounds and plays amazing.  It is just a great bass.

It is in excellent condition with some light finish checking, and a few small cracks around the output jack and near the back electronics cover (they are stable, and could easily be repaired).  Neck and playability are flawless.

More pics here:

I'm asking $3700 shipped.

Hi Edward and good luck with your sale.
I think the most sought after information here will be... What is the scale length?  Is the DS5 power supply and cable included?  Is there any provenance to the ownership that you mention?
Thanks, Art

Hey Art,

Its a 34 scale. No power supply or cable.  Click this link to see a pic of Mark holding this bass:

Great information, thanks!
You mentioned another Alembic... are you funding a custom built?
Best, Art

I nearly bought this bass from you several years ago.... here I am again, wishing I had the cash to do it now.

Good luck with the sale.

Best of luck with the sale Ed.  I really wish I had the bucks to take it off your hands.

Care to share the details of the 'other Alembic' you're raising funds for?

Hey Toby! This bass still calls to you, and to me... alas,I have a deal going for a 2002 Six-string Series II.

Hey Ed,

Would it be too much trouble to post a pic showing the inside of the control cavity either here on this thread or on the ebay listing?  That whole Kuon Orthros thread made me a little skittish about prior monkeyings on these older basses' electronics.

Thanks,
Will

Hi Will,

The electronics are all original.  No monkey business guaranteed.

Thanks,
Ed
